Great benefits, but that's about it.

Pros

-It is a job, and the salary was decent. -Top-notch benefits package (no employee contributions for health care and dental plans, the plans themselves are very good with low deductibles--minimal out-of-pocket expenses, AAMC will match your retirement contributions immediately upon hire if you come from another non-profit organization, SmartBenefits for metro/bus). If it wasn't for the benefits package my review would probably only be one star. -High value on work/life balance. Employees are encouraged to take time off. Also, PTO does not need to be used if you come in late or leave early. -Metro accessible

Cons

There are many. Here are the key ones. -Not a relaxing work environment. Everyday I felt stressed out when I didn't need to be. -Many of my assigned tasks/responsibilities seemed counterproductive towards my career development, and were not in line with my expectations of the position based on the interview process. -Managers fuss constantly over mundane details such as wording or font used in emails. -Minor decisions such as re-arranging text on a survey site are constantly over-analyzed and require hours of meetings and discussion. -Management preaches collaboration, however, I was unable to reach out directly to other departments at the AAMC without drawing the ire of my supervisor because I did not coordinate the outreach through them. -There is no trust in other departments. I have sat in meetings where individuals openly berated other departments in front of my team. I shouldn't be performing tasks for other departments because my supervisor doesn't trust them to do a good job. -Little opportunity for career development. It was easy to get moved around on to different projects, but none of them differed from each other greatly enough that I was learning anything useful. -Working here is probably best suited for someone content with doing the same kind of work day in, day out with little variation, and are not interested in furthering their career.

Pros

If you are full time you will have a wide variety of things to choose for from your benefits package, you will also have flexibility in your schedule after the first 6 months to change your schedule or work from home as needed. Also most of this company is small focused teams, within larger departments. You work closely with the same group of people every day in an open workspace and management/HR gets it right when balancing skills, talents and temperaments within these small teams.

Cons

Do you like being promoted? Let that go. You won't be off of your skills, certifications, degrees, experiences or tenure at the job. Promotions are almost non-existent. Title changes are nonexistent. Do you like creating solutions? Let that go, company is about maintaining/maintenance of their mission not actually improving it or building their legacy with something new. New ideas are not welcome and will not be approved. Do you like endless, meaningless, pointless meetings that eat up the limited time in your day to actually accomplish your work tasks during working hours? You're in the right place! Do you have a rich appreciation for being micromanaged? Do you look forward to performance reviews that will NOT result in assured annual raises, regardless of how much you have increased your workload in special projects, initiatives or absorbing others opportunities after they have left from the stress? Do you want your pay to be correlative to your work responsibilities? If this doesn't matter to you and you are okay being approached to negotiate your work life balance for understaffed teams where people have quit 4-5 months after being hired - then yes, you should join this place as an employee. Do you care about

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback! The wellness of our employees is very important to us and we strive to continuously improve the offerings in our benefits package to promote this. As a smaller association in a very specialized industry, we realize we cannot always provide advancement opportunities to employees as frequently as larger organizations. We do, however, emphasize growth in your current role and are committed to preparing you for future opportunities either here or elsewhere. We recognize growth and professional development are vital to the success of each employee and the organization. We apologize that you feel this has not been your experience with us. Pros

Working with various departments and member organizations, I got a better understanding of our mission on various levels. I also felt very appreciated by team members. AAMC had an excellent benefit package and onsite perks.

Cons

Too many managers who do nothing to support their staff. If you are not a director, your role is not very important, and neither are you, Way too clickish that starts at the top. Poor leadership and "no open door policies". All rules does not apply to everyone.
