So Discouraged

Pros

The company has great benefits, the salaries are beginning to climb. Great company to start a career with.

Cons

The down side is AC Transit only has 2 female mechanics in the whole company, and the blatant sexist discrimination in there maintenance department is appalling, and the fact that there is no promoting of women in that department is even worse. People can get hired and within month's become lead over employees that have put in the time. The promoting process is still good old boy even if they don't want to admit it. It's seen, and it's there. Very sad.

Pros

Great pay for those who want to work. You can make alot of money driving, and the benefits are amazing.

Cons

Divisive culture created by management. Supervisors and upper management create a hostile work environment for drivers. Stressful work environment given the nature of the job, but made even more so by aggressive and disrespectful supervisors. Superintendents who belittle and disrespect drivers as well don't help the situation. Workplace is hostile due to district employees vs union employees being the mindset promoted here.

Pros

Flex hours In downtown city has some culture various shops and stores around building Stable job Long history of existence

Cons

- No parking at all. Parking costs $10 a day period. You basically park in the back lot. You don't get an actual parking spot unless you are really high up. So be prepared to spend about $3000 a year on parking alone! - There is a new regime in town. When I worked there, there were people who had been working for 30 years there in high positions. There was a family culture. Women were hired for really high positions makes $250k/yr. - Then after a CEO change the whole culture changed. He fired all the old crew and brought in his entourage. This was both good and bad. Good in the sense that some really bad people were let go but then bad in the sense that some good people exited also. - This is typical GOV agency where people basically work till they retire. For example, there are people that have been there since 1970s and putting 30-40+ years in at AC Transit is quite common. - Heavily unionized environment where you have to basically wait till someone leaves or retires to move up. - This whole district has a lot of problems in operations and such where operators get into fist fights and generally it's a rough environment.
