IT Leadership - listen to your technical experts!
Pros
-Relaxed work attire (in most locations) -Some work from home capability -Plenty of change = plenty of opportunity to learn "new to you" technologies
Cons
-IT leadership lacks focus on projects, and pushes out multiple enterprise-wide projects concurrently in order to fulfill checkboxes for audit requirements. It is a "Deploy first, fix problems later" mentality, rather than giving adequate time for planning and implementation. -IT infrastructure lacks the number of personnel required to properly plan and implement projects while keeping the ship from sinking. There's too much turnover without backfilling positions. Often open positions are cannibalized by other business units. - IT leadership doesn't listen enough to their technical resources. Let the technical experts design and build, and trust them to do the job they were hired to do. Management often dictates the design of a solution. - IT leadership buys products without adequate technical evaluation. At times there is little to no involvement from technical teams, which has led to poor implementation. - Too often the focus is on fighting fires and fixing holes rather than giving adequate time and resources to being proactive in preventing the same fires and holes from coming up in the future. - The business culture is toxic to IT management and growth. Until the culture is changed and we get rid of the developer mentality of "I can do it however I want", IT will never improve. There's no standardization which makes planning and implementation difficult. This requires direction from the top.
