Pros

AECOM provides above average pay, and flexible working hours. Opportunities to work on a variety of interesting projects if you take advantage of working out of your comfort zones.

Cons

Too many middle and senior level managers who do not want to or do not have the skills to work on the technical aspects of projects. Project managers carry the load for this company. It is very frustrating working hard and watching managers of business line disciplines coast through the days, weeks, months, quarter and years. Most of the pressure and accountability is placed on project managers. Lack of training. AECOM does not encourage technical training outside of the AECOM training modules, which is mainly internal management or internal procedures regarding prject management, time cards etc. If you want to learn how to use engineering software, AECOM very rarely pays for useful technical training with outside providers to learn engineering techniques, technical computer programs etc. Open space concept is terrible. Very noisy, cramped working quarters. Many people do not work at the office on a consistent basis to collaborate on projects because they work from home to avoid the noisy and cramped working space. Therefore, you can only communicate with some team members on projects by e-mail and phone, which is very inefficient.

Pros

A paycheck. Working together with world class people.

Cons

Employees are treated like cattle. Rush to change without proper due diligence. No regard for how management decisions impact the day to day operations, more interested in checking a box. Benefits continue to decrease, designing offices which clearly decrease productivity and based on out dated data. Long term employees with many years of expertise are either let go or forced out leaving those with much less experience in positions of authority. It's only a matter of time before the company fails, or is a fraction of the size they are currently.

Pros

The company is big enough that there is no worry about things which might be a problem from smaller companies. Health benefits are decent, pay is on par, and learning is promoted (largely through their own online "university). There are so many areas where this company participates, that something is available for just about everyone, somewhere in the world. Stock options aren't bad, but the company stock is a non-mover for the most part.

Cons

You are a number. A daily grinder. While recognition is promoted, the chance of one individual being recognized among over 100,000 people is quite rare. It is unlikely that you will do anything that the company sees as exceptional, and pay for performance ends up being anything but.
