Pros

Company provided truck , gas card ,20% commision on most sales. Make your own schedule generally

Cons

Management is slow at getting quotes to customers , your pushed to sell sell sell yet many times your hands are tied while waiting for quote to be processed. Company provided phone is a nightmare of your life. On call twice or more a year 24 /7 for a week only $100 bonus. Not worth it. Family owned they pride on yet as an employee your family time is minimal. Promises are not kept. Supplies to complete job are always out of stock in warehouse. Equipment malfunctions and takes days to get another normally in worse condition. Office is understaffed and have no time to work as a team . They promise commision yet watch your pay check to make sure their paying it ! Emergency dispatches are sent by uneducated employees giving unreasonable time frames and unwilling to listen . If you don't sell new contracts they will serve you notices to increase sales or they will take action. If your single have, no family, and like being used and mistreated then JOIN THE ABELL FAMILY

Pros

Good equipment to work with, nice people

Cons

You are being monitored for every single thing you do-even when you go to the washroom. Management are never satisfied with your results, they want more and more every time. When the company is not doing good, they put the blame on you even though it's not your fault. Poor benefits and it is not recognized by management even when you work late or come early and work extra. If you are used to work late and one day you can't, they automatically see you as a bad employer as it became a norm to see you work late, with no extra pay. There is a lot of favoritism as well. No career growth-even though they post job internally, you will never get the job, it's someone external that will get the job

Pros

I have now worked at Abell Pest Control Inc. for 26 years plus. I have always felt like Abell was a part of my family... an extension of my home. John Abell is an approachable owner. He is easy to talk to and very fair in his dealings with his employees. The one mistake we all make is if we are not satisfied we complain to the wrong person rather than approaching the one person who can do the job. I too have made this same mistake. My whole family has at one time or the other benefited from Abell, even when my husband lost his job years ago. Abell opened the door to him and gave him odd jobs to do until he was able to find a job in his line. My son worked here as a summer help to later becoming a tech for Urinal Installations and he worked and paid for university. My daughter Maureen too worked at Abell for close to 5 years until her contract was up. Caitlin came in to do odd jobs whenever needed. So you see if Abell was not a family company, my family would of been out in the cold many a time. I love talking to our customers who also say so many great things about our Route Managers and our company. I love responding to our customers concerns and problems and help them. It is great to work with my branch Managers and the Office Administrators at the branches. I am there to make work easy for them and to offer my many years experience in one of the best companies in Canada. I am not saying this because I work here still but because I genuinely enjoy and love my job. We get opportunities to meet and greet all our Abell employees more than twice a year. Summer gatherings, Christmas Parties for our Abell children, and the Holiday Dinner Awards Night close to the end of the year.... Most of the Salespersons get to enjoy President's Club and the many meetings for O/A's and for Route Managers. I love my job and I appreciate that I can go to my Manager with any problem whether personal or work related and I know that she will do whatever is within her power to make things better for me. I am forever indebted to Abell. Due to my illness of Lupus and diabetes many considerations have been made for me. When I tell our friends about all that Abell does for us they are amazed. My advise to all new-comers give Abell a chance and if you are feeling pressured or over burdened talk to John Abell if your own Manager is not able to help. Do not go around putting Abell down. I have grown with this company and call it my home. Happy 90th Birthday Abell.... my home away from home!!

Cons

I have to think deep to find any cons as there as very few and most arise from individual needs. We are trained and we have tests to ensure that we work in safety and a clean environment. Abell has done everything in its power to become green.... Electronic billing (paperless billing is encouraged) With the company growing so fast it may be harder to consider all employees needs and some may get lost in the cracks.
