Pros

Friendly co-workers. Easy access to subject matter experts. No silos - if you are willing to, you can talk directly to the person with a problem and solve it. I should have said, IF YOU ARE WILLING TO. If you are not, you are part of the silo. Free snacks, free beverages, free lunch, but most of all, free beers from 2 taps. R&D members have established the culture of continuous improvement.

Cons

Cross-departmental coordination can be improved. 1 or 2 too many managerial layers - we need faster & on-the-spot communication between people who does actual work. Managers should ask themselves what their values are to the process.

Thanks for the awesome feedback and I'm sorry for the delay in responding. I agree with your feedback and have been taking it to heart since I read it back in June. As you note, we are a meritocracy and strong performers excel. We try to coach up those that don't, but will make a change if those efforts aren't getting results. We will continue to work on our manager effectiveness and watch spans/layers. We've grown from 80 to 450 employees in two years. Not an excuse, just acknowledging the challenges that presents. Please come see me and let's chat more. I would love to get more feedback on the things you are seeing and how to further improve. In the meantime, thanks for all that you do and for the feedback. For the record, I agree with your headline statement :) Best, Wayne Roberts President and Chief Executive Officer

Pros

Great facility, casual atmosphere but the focus is kept pretty squarely on solving problems and making progress. A lot of very smart and helpful people help keep the sometimes-challenging collaborations fun and rewarding. There is a great culture here of working together to get things done, and leaving unhelpful distractions aside. Ongoing maturation of the product tooling ensures a non-stop flow of learning material and opportunities for developers to contribute; individual empowerment is significant.

Cons

Some organizational bumps along the way, but nothing out of the ordinary for a growth period. Admin stuff sometimes takes a few pushes, but I see that as a side effect of a fairly sizable wave of new personnel, and the adaptation of policies to fit.

Thanks for taking time to provide feedback after your departure. We do wish you all the best in your next role. You make two very serious accusations in your review. We do not condone nor practice management by intimidation. Quite the contrary. Our leaders are known for being compassionate, caring, and supportive. Every survey that's been conducted since I joined nearly two years ago supports that claim. These surveys have been conducted by external organizations, in addition to our own engagement surveys. Our manager scores are industry leading. As for our culture, once again, every objective metric and outcome supports the notion that we have a vibrant and healthy culture. External and internal surveys are industry leading. We've been on great places to work lists for many years running. We have high employee retention. Our culture is one of our strengths. Our revenue, EBITDA, Customer counts/retention, and Penguins have grown significantly in the last two years. Again, this doesn't happen if you don't have a strong and healthy culture, a compelling strategy/mission, and the resources in terms of people and capital to make it happen. Our Penguins are the envy of the industry. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you and do wish you well. I believe in our team and will defend them with everything I have. We have high aspirations and goals. We welcome anyone to our team who shares similarly high expectations. Best, Wayne Roberts Chief Executive Officer
