Pros

Room to grow and move into different roles. Willing to provide training. Inclusive culture - I thought it was all for show and pure talk at first, I now feel the current CEO is truly trying to create an inclusive culture and drinking her own kool-aid. Remote first with occasional perks (meals and happy hour) to attract staff into the office for a day.

Cons

Benefits package is pretty average, would be nice if more coverage was offered.

Pros

Joining Absorb right from the start has been a great experience. The recruitment process was one of the most efficient and streamlined that I've ever been through. The interviewers were prepared, the recruiters were always in contact ensuring that you were set up for success right from the start. Once started, you get a pretty involved product training which sets you up for success post-onboarding. The team is great and everyone at the company is really in it together. They want to see everyone succeed and everyone is incredibly approachable, especially in a remote-first environment, even up to the CEO being willing to answer questions and being approachable to say hello! Within the first 2 weeks the EVP of our department made sure to set aside time to check in and have a coffee chat, something that's never happened at my previous companies. Their focus on making sure everyone feels included is what makes the job easier in the long run because everyone is willing to collaborate or merely just answer a question. One of the biggest things I noticed was the entire companies devotion to the customer. Making sure every strategic choice that is made, is made with our customer in mind. Lastly, Absorb is really focused on the employee experience. I've noticed in just my conversations with my manager that any decision that gets made, serious thought goes into how it will impact the employees of the organization. Absorb truly is a great place to work.

Cons

None that I can think of at this time

Pros

- One of few tech cos. in town in Calgary - Some thoughtful, kind and collaborative colleagues

Cons

Toxic work culture (in our office) due to: - Preferential treatment - Those that question the status quo are diminished. Those that enforce a toxic culture are protected and thrive; Highly political environment for such a small org - Incompetent, insecure and frequently absent manager who actively promotes infighting across teams - Rotating door policy - people who leave or are let go are treated as traitors while the hard questions as to to why a particular leader(s) is/are causing so many qualified people to leave in such a short time frame are left unexplored - Thin HR function - This company sells training software, but little emphasis is placed here. Career development opportunities are highly variable across the org and are dependent on your manager

Pros

My team was supportive and helpful.

Cons

Leadership lacked proper training and seemed more focused on their success vs. mentoring and supporting their team. Hard to advance. Not much growth opportunities.

Pros

Snack days. Salary is on par with the industry in Calgary. Benefits are fairly good with a few gaps. The company itself has some good ideals and seems to know what they want to do at a higher level but the development group is lead by poor managers.

Cons

You would think that a company that develops learning management software would be strong at training their employees but that is simply not the case here. Senior roles are almost exclusively filled by outside hires rather than providing training and guidance to existing staff to naturally move into those roles. Management can never give a clear picture of how one advances in the company; the idea of that even being a possibility seems to baffle them. Junior developers that have been here for years are still at the junior level because of a lack of guidance and will continue to languish unless they jump ship. Unless you're part of the elite circle of one manager's friends, your opinions count for nothing, you are treated as a second-rate citizen, and you are rarely given the chance to work on anything interesting. There is zero desire to fix broken parts of the product, instead choosing to leave half-finished implementations unfinished and either slap bandaids on any problems or tell customers that we won't bother to fix the issue. New development is often started with poor vision and understanding of what they hope to achieve resulting in either a failed product or one that is so feature-deprived that it's almost useless. Bonuses are laughable. Take highly-positive reviews with a grain of salt, especially if they're posted within 1 to 2 weeks of each other; when a bad review is posted, management often "encourages" people to review bomb the site to offset anything they don't like.
