Pros

I met some amazing people while at Act-On and left with tons of great connections. They stocked redbull. Pay was also decent.

Cons

Where to begin! My biggest problem with Act-On is the fact that 2 years ago the company was thriving, ahead of the curve on technology, and everything was looking great. One bad decision after another, and finally I had to jump off the sinking ship. Here's a list of my key issues with Act-On. 1. Micromanagement. Daily harassment from VP's who are aggressively trying to close business. Multiple pipeline reviews per week and more internal meetings than I could believe. Half of my time wasn't spent selling, but just dealing with internal politics and creating reports in multiple systems. 2. Dated technology. The Act-On system really only does email for the automated marketing in the current product form (with a potential social add on for additional money). When I started, I was truly proud of our software and believed I was selling a quality product. By the time I left (mid 2016) all of our competition has not only caught up, but easily passed the Act-On capabilities. I believe that I am an ethical sales person and could not continue to push our product with a clear conscious, knowing full well that I was selling an inferior product that was never fully meeting the expectations of new clients. 3. Horrible deliverability. A joke within the sales team is that you don't send via Act-On unless you want the email to hit spam. 4. Product demo's well but is full of holes. Almost everything a customer wants to do ends up being a work around and we were losing customers as fast as we could sign new ones. Unless the client uses Chrome from a pc and Google for email, then they will run into constant problems. 5. The "customer success" is laughable. Several years ago we really stood behind the product and helped our customers succeed. Now deals are sold, handed to an untrained Customer Success Team, and they basically just tell clients what articles to read or videos to watch. Once a customer realizes that they purchased a nightmare, they're told to buy professional services to make the tool work, or start working with a partner training in using Act-On. 6. Next to no Lead Generation or meetings booked for you. In a given month, you'll be lucky to have 3 or more meetings booked from you by the Biz Dev team. In sales its expected to do some prospecting, but this will consume your life and really limit the time that you can spend on opportunities. With the rising quota's, its not surprising that quarter after quarter less than 10% of the Account Executives hit their number. My suggestion: If you want to work for a marketing automation company, apply to Marketo, Pardot, Hubspot or any of the other players. This once great company is no longer worth the headache.

Pros

I could rehash all of the things you will read from others on this review such as great pay, benefits, fun startup culture, etc... but those things will not truly make you happy in a job. The reason I am so happy here is because I truly feel that as an individual contributor I am helping build something lasting, not only for my own personal success, but also the organization as a whole. Each person feels as though they are a part of the team, and that team is building something incredible. Our software is cutting edge, better than the competition in nearly every way, and constantly innovating. This is an incredible opportunity, and I am blessed to be a part of it. We are heading in a great direction.

Cons

This job is not without its challenges. Our product is technical, and our buyer is technical. If you do not have the aptitude to navigate an extremely technical sales call that can get down to into the weeds, then this job is probably not right for you. I also feel that our relatively young executive team is yet to understand the nature of the challenges of the sales team. They need to get on sales calls, get in the weeds with us, and understand what buyers are looking for, the questions they ask, and where our competition has us beat (its not in many ways... but no solution is perfect).

Pros

I'm drawing a blank. Free Red Bull and snacks?

Cons

Like other companies on Glassdoor, Act-On constantly pushes executives and praise-seeking employees to leave positive reviews. Don't buy the hype. Morale is horrible and performance is weak. This was once a strong, fun company with great people - but those days are gone. Some of the good people are still there, but most have left - either forced out by the cliquish, 'old boys club' that's since taken over the organization. If you see Act-On's 'CEO responses' on Glassdoor as anything other than patronizing attempts to discredit people in the know, and undermine accurate criticism, you haven't met Andy or his hand-picked masochist cronies in "leadership". The old leadership team was comprised of human beings who'd generally at least TRY to treat people respectfully. I'm not naive to the cut-throat nature of SaaS sales roles- but the new mid-market leadership team actually takes pleasure in flexing their muscles and messing with - and ultimately letting go - quality, veteran staff. This will ultimately lead to failure. My only hope is that they can manage to sell while the company has value for employee shareholders who built the company before things crater.
