Rewarding work

Pros

Action does a great job of giving its paramedics everything we need to do our job to the best of our abilities. Top-notch equipment. Thorough training. Iron clad company policies. Plenty of career and emotional support. Competitive salary. Professional work environment. Pretty much, they handle everything else so we can focus on helping people who need emergency assistance.

Cons

The hours are grueling. Be prepared to work 14+ hour shifts when needed.

Pros

Working as an EMT is one of the most difficult jobs there is and the company you work for can either make it better or worse. I read through some of the reviews on here and they just made me laugh. Clearly the people who wrote them have never worked for any other ambulance company because, let me tell you, 99% of them are MUCH MUCH worse. From the other reviews on here you’d think that Action was the worst of the bunch, but that’s just not true. I’ve worked for several other companies as an EMT and Action is the only one that has treated me like a valuable employee, deserving of all the same respect and consideration as those in management. Believe what you want to about Action, but the only thing I regret is not applying to work here sooner. It would have made my career as an EMT far better than it was.

Cons

There really aren’t any cons. If you’re coming from a place of zero previous job experience, you’re probably only going to focus on the negatives. If you’ve worked for literally any other company, you’ll pick up on the positives. From my experience, it has less to do with a cut-and-dry list of pros/cons and more to do with where you’re coming from and what you’re comparing it to. If you want to work in this space long hours and emotionally/physically exhausting conditions just come with the territory. Some people think they’re ready for that and they just aren’t.

Fantastic training!

Pros

I thought I knew everything I needed to know before applying to work at Action, but after going through their training I realized just how much more I needed to learn! They did an amazing job at going over everything and actually preparing us for everything the job entails on a day-to-day basis. As far as preparing the people they hire for the rigors of the job, I give them 10 stars across the board easily.

Cons

Unfortunately, not all of the EMTs take the job as seriously as they should. Especially when it comes to conducting safety checks on the equipment and vans. It’s frustrating working with people who not only don’t care as much as you, but as much as they should.
