Pros
As a young leader in the company, I appreciate that my suggestions are listened to and that decisions I have suggested have impacted the nation's largest jail healthcare provider. While I expected this position to be a more temporary role as I grew my career, it has become a place I feel that I fit in and I plan to stay at forever. The new leaders (and current tenured) challenge me to work at a high level and I do not want to disappoint them, but even when I have made errors, we talk about it and they help me correct it. No place is perfect, but I cannot imagine I'd have the flexibility and ownership over adjusting my role as fluidly as I do here as I grow. And if you're a new employee (no matter how big or small your site is) you can always call the corporate office with ideas, suggestions and critiques. Breaking the communication barriers has been a focus of every single strategic plan meeting for years. We need to help everyone feel comfortable communicating through levels and with each other in an uplifting and supportive way.
Cons
I feel bad for the company and those who work here when people leave and share their anger on sites like this. It is never a personal decision but the terminations tend to become that for those who leave, because it affects their personal life when it occurs. Frustration and anger happens; it's a bit like a grieving process. However, if you actually did not like the organization, why did you stay so long? It's highly unlikely that the people are truly mad about benefits (yes, we'd like like to pay nothing) or management (some of the people who left and complained about management were management -- but yes sometimes there are just bad managers we hope to learn about before we lose good employees). They're typically just emotional because after multiple, multiple reminders of an issue (that that they- the person- did not take seriously), the company and it's patients are going to be affected due to lack of action (actual work, not just talking about it). When employees and patients are at risk for negative things due to a manager or even an executive's lack of action and multiple notifications, they should be terminated in my opinion. No place is perfect for everyone but if this place is not the right fit, I wish the individuals would find new employment, rather than take the time to say their lack of action is everyone else's fault. The interview process even notifies new applicants that we believe there is no appropriate time to yell at coworkers/employees. Collaboration and problem solving is a big, real deal. The sad part is, the individuals who defend these people after they leave typically have no idea that the people who left have spent their time blaming them too (but managers/executives do not feel it is productive or helpful to facilitate this negativity by giving it attention and passing it along. They already know it is not truthful.) It is just hurtful.
