Toxic but good pay

Pros

Good work life balance (except in tech/product). Great pay and benefits, especially Forma stipends and equity/bonuses. Peer-level co-workers tend to be really cool people.

Cons

Middle management is bloated, decisions are made with little regard for customer experience or compliance. Lots of “cooks in the kitchen” requiring more documentation than actual execution. Very start-up-oriented despite being a public company with large market share. Performance expectations are unclear and undocumented. Heavy emphasis on “opportunities” with little regard or acknowledgement of hard work or progress. Over-reliant on vendors to do all of our customer-facing work but no one is willing to change that. Too much emphasis on what senior leadership wants with little room for actual contribution. People get hired for a specific skill set and then are lunged into a job that is vastly different than what they were hired to do. Growth is limited and there is a huge disconnect between leadership’s view on the company and the actual customer and product experience.

The most toxic and political culture I’ve ever had

Pros

Pay, benefits, remote but none other that make it worth. I left a lot of money behind to get out.

Cons

I’ve honestly never seen such a blatantly political and toxic workplace culture. I’m the type that has great internal partnerships with all teams and when I joined I was shocked to see people and teams already having picked sides and have weird animosity. I get it, a lot of employees are young and hungry, coming from Google and mgmt consulting, but it was crazy to see how cutthroat and toxic it was. I was battling daily - and could not figure it out because we supposedly should’ve all been working towards the same goals. There was constant thrash, throwing other people under the bus, teams trying to take credit for other teams work, it went on and on. It almost seemed like the playbook to get ahead was to be highly critical of everyone around you. Maybe insecurity, maybe not but a lot of mediocre leaders went by that mantra. Also - while some folks were really smart, there were a lot of tenured people who should not have been promoted to lead some orgs, since tenure doesn’t equate to direct experience.

Pros

The work is challenging and engaging. A lot of immediate support and opportunities. Can’t believe how great the benefits are! I didn’t know it was possible to be treated so well. The DEI is top notch and the company actually wants you to invest in your own financial wellness.

Cons

Definitely a few bumps being remote only in most roles, but the company is really trying hard to keep everyone connected.
