Pros

Offers valuable learning opportunities and professional growth, PARTICULARLY for those just starting out in their careers. The team is made up of talented and supportive individuals (only some) who genuinely appreciate the work of their colleagues.

Cons

There are significant issues within the company that cannot be overlooked, especially if you’re considering joining. Leadership Issues: Leadership, particularly at higher levels, often fails to recognize or value employee contributions. Many employees feel their hard work goes unnoticed, with some even having their efforts credited to others. Bias is a norm here, and you’ll see it happen almost every day. This lack of acknowledgment is deeply frustrating and demotivating, which is why many talented employees have quit or left. Toxic Behavior: Another concern is the behavior of certain leadership figures, such as the CCO. It has become clear that personal biases are at play. Negative remarks about employees' mental stability in inappropriate settings and the mocking of mental health issues are commonplace. Teammates who burn out are often made the subject of jokes or shame. The phrase “don’t be weak, everyone has problems, don’t even mention about your mental health” is often used as a public example. This behavior creates a toxic atmosphere, where employees feel unsupported, unappreciated, or worse, they burn out and crash. Inappropriate Remarks: There have been troubling incidents where inappropriate, often sexually charged remarks have been made under the guise of jokes. These comments have made many employees, particularly women, feel uncomfortable and disrespected. Despite the obvious discomfort they caused, these remarks were dismissed as harmless, contributing to a super hostile work environment. Compensation Issues: Compensation has also been a significant point of contention. Many employees feel underpaid for the work they do, and some have expressed frustration over being told not to discuss salaries with others. When raises do occur, they are often seen as token gestures rather than genuine recognition of hard work. In some cases, employees who carry heavier workloads are compensated less than their peers, leading to feelings of inequity. You’ll be paid more and asked to work as much as you want—ONLY if you’re the boss’s pet. Lack of Support and Growth: The lack of clear support and guidance from leadership makes it difficult for employees to grow within the company. There is a noticeable absence of mentorship and meaningful feedback from certain leads, which stunts professional development and causes frustration among junior employees. Attempts to raise concerns are often met with little action or follow-up, further exacerbating the feeling of being undervalued. Resignation Process: Resignation is also made harder. Once you’ve given your notice, you’ll be treated even worse and alienated. A personal experience of mine: The CCO told me that he would hold off on my resignation for the time being, and I had to reach out to HR to reiterate and ensure my resignation was approved. They will try to make you stay by offering a sabbatical and etc without even bothering to fix themselves.

Pros

The company works on interesting projects, which can make the job engaging. Previously, flexibility was one of its biggest perks, and working with talented colleagues made the environment enjoyable. However, many of those great colleagues have left, and the work culture has declined significantly.

Cons

The CEO is incompetent and surrounded by a management team that values bootlicking over real leadership. Hard work is punished, while mediocrity and office politics are rewarded. Employees are given unrealistic deadlines and used as scapegoats when things inevitably go wrong. Transparency is non-existent—employees are misled or outright lied to, and raising concerns is a waste of time because no one listens. The treatment of employees is extremely poor. Talented people keep leaving, yet no effort is made to retain them. There is no proper appraisal process, and salary increments are rare—you literally have to beg just to be reviewed. Benefits are below industry standards, yet employees are expected to perform at a high level with minimal support. Despite forcing employees back to the office, the working environment is terrible. The office is old, cramped, and lacks enough washrooms, yet facility costs are overpriced. Employees are given basic laptops but are somehow expected to juggle multiple projects simultaneously. Instead of meaningful improvements, the company enforces pointless micromanagement tools like daily journals, Flocket, and a blame-passing culture. Company policies are another major problem. They constantly change, always in ways that benefit the company at the employees’ expense. There is no stability or consistency—rules are rewritten or discarded at the CEO’s whim, making it impossible for employees to feel secure in their jobs. To make things worse, there is no proper HR department. Instead, a so-called "Happiness Team" pretends to handle HR matters but does the exact opposite of promoting happiness. Employees are mistreated and manipulated, and any concerns about these issues are ignored.

Pros

The only redeeming aspect of working at Aleph Labs is the people—many of the team members are talented and supportive. A former HR Ops Lead genuinely cared about employee well-being, but they have since left, which speaks volumes.

Cons

Toxic Management: Leadership is dismissive of employee concerns, fostering a toxic work culture. Decisions are heavily centralized, with almost everything requiring CEO approval, leaving managers and leads powerless to advocate for their teams. Unfair Practices: Performance appraisals and increments appear to be based on favoritism rather than clear KPIs. Employees often feel they need to plead for fair compensation or recognition. Lack of Support: Employees are treated well only when the company needs them. Otherwise, they are ignored, targeted for speaking up, or pressured to resign. Excessive Workload: There's no overtime compensation despite frequent weekend work. Employees are often forced to prioritize work over personal health just to meet client billing requirements. Unstructured Processes: The company demands daily journals that no one seems to read, wasting time and adding unnecessary pressure. Unethical Practices: Resignations are made difficult, especially if ongoing projects need resources. Employees are treated poorly unless they’re indispensable to client deliverables. Unequal Bonuses: Bonuses are distributed based on favoritism rather than performance, with delays in payout. This unfair system undermines morale and trust.
