Pros

Work / life balance is very favorable. Compensation and benefits are standard for the industry.

Cons

There seems to be a "you're in" our "you're out" culture at Alerus (from management) that could be seen as discriminatory or exclusionary. There is a level of nepotism and "old friends" in the company that prevents a trust environment to raise issues or concerns without repercussion. Career opportunities await for a select few.

Great company for 2010

Pros

Hard working team members, strong growth and acquisitions, flexible days, minimal overtime, great manager (in my case!) Zero fee retirement plans and active management by in house mangement team

Cons

Backend staff are considered a burden and sales are considered the heros of the company. Sales gets bonus commissions and retention bonuses while backend staff gets 3-4% raises and a small bonus. Even after multiple "recordbreaking years". Some teams are overworked, positions are not being filled, and people are leaving in key positions. Benefits is package is great for 2010. Vacation is decent (23 days to start plus bank holidays); parental leave is lacking severely, medical insurance is high
