HR boasts about flexible work hours, but I think this depends on your supervisors. I always felt pressured to work 11+ hour days, while my supervisors worked about 6. Public perception is that non-profits are easy-going and rewarding, but AHA is definitely not one of them. AHA is a very bureaucratic organization. Unless you're in the "in crowd" of managers, you're often left in the dark about projects, left scrambling at the last minute to complete a project unrealistically, and then blamed for any and all problems. With the exception of a few folks, most are stuck in the same position for years, with no leads on a promotion, which causes most employees to leave because they get so tired of feeling unappreciated, undervalued and underpaid. AHA truly does suck the life out of you. The main reason that most people stay there so long is because of the benefits package, and they feel like they can't leave.

Horrible management and company culture. Micromanagement. Functions like a for-profit, all about the money. Raised goals astronomically so no one can meet them or get a bonus. Performance standards are sent out in October (FY starts in July) and then you receive a mid year evaluation in December which is below achieves. Entire ECC division received a partially achieved...... really???? That is not the employees, that is the management and company. Expectations are unrealistic. NO work life balance. Big brother culture. Everything management says feels like bait and switch. Fear based culture. Every day you wonder if you are going to be let go or get in trouble for something you didn't know you did wrong. Always having to look for the "most recent" answer because every week their stance changes. AHA is "in bed" with Laerdal and it is very uncomfortable to the customers. The organization is truly no longer customer centric, they are money centric. It feels like a bad emotionally abusive relationship, you guys do the same things as those types of people do.
