I have worked at 2 Americare Facilities - starting to see a pattern
Pros
Most residents are great and just like family. Some of the staff become great friends. Good experience.
Cons
If you work here or are considering working here, heed this warning: The massive workload you are expected to do in a shift is extremely hard and board line impossible for nursing staff to complete. The staff are iffy in most cases. I would say 25%-35% of the staff is actually friendly and do not have favoritism. Training is fast pace and often too fast. Don't even get me started on the wages. I went from working a FAST FOOD job making $9.00/hr to making $8.75/hr working at the Americare communities. The pay is down right horrible and employees are majorly underpaid. Now, I have triple the stress, have to clean up human feces, change diapers and make $.25 per hour less. At least when I was flipping patties, I did not have to worry about cleaning up someone else's poop. Turn over rates are high; because of that expect to work insane hours. In my first 4 months working at an Americare facility, I watched 4 employees literally SNAP and walk out - no notice or anything. If you decide to continue your education and go to college, don't expect them to work around your school. The first facility I was at had me working overnights, minimum 45+ hours per week and going to college full time (15 credit hour). I can't even tell you how much I begged to work semi-normal hours (days and evenings) and limited days, but because they were under staffed, I had to be overworked. They even went as far as not giving me the dates off for my mid terms and were not going to give me the days off for my finals (keep in mind I requested off a month in advance). When my fall semester started, management "lost" my schedule (once again, management had this information months in advance and still didn't care about it). (Side note: This experience is from ONE facility). Last, but not least, DO NOT work here if you do not have the patience of a saint.
