Pros

Salary & bennies very generous. Lots of smart, hardworking people trying to do the right thing.

Cons

Dysfunctional leadership in Operations struggle to make decisions. Rounds of layoffs have shed serious talent and concentrated an increasing workload on remaining staff - work/life balance is unachievable. Negligible diversity in senior leadership style - "strong leader" = aggressive autocrat. Morale incredibly low and people are stressed.

Pros

Love my coworkers, huge company with a highly effective form of organization compared to previous biotech companies I've worked at. A lot of others are contractors so you don't feel alone and they help you through the process.

Cons

As a contractor, you're treated differently from those with FTE. You're losing a lot in compensation compared to your peers who are full time, but apparently this is part of the "process." Contracting is your foot in the door but it can seem as if you're being taken advantage of since they don't convert employees over to full time until about 1.5-2 years. Even then, you have to truly be your own advocate in gaining FTE because the company will drag its feet as long as it can to keep you on contract.

Pros

1. Benefits - Amgen offers incredible benefits, which is probably why the majority of individuals stay there for so many years. 2. Financial Stability - They are higher on the salary dependent on your industry. 3. Beautiful Campus - a gorgeous location with a lot of outdoor seating.

Cons

**This is a reflection of my experience of my role and might not be reflected in other departments** 1. Leadership and Management are horrible! Needs a lot of improvement. Whoever hired senior management needs to double-check who they've hired. They hired individuals who are not well-versed when it comes to effectively building strategy or leading a team. 2. Meetings, Meetings, Meetings: Expect to constantly be in meetings. The running joke is that you have a meeting to discuss scheduling another meeting. 3. They promise work-life balance, but there is none. I worked every weekend for the 3 months that I was there. 4. It's a constant game of hot potato. Tasks keep being handed off to other individuals and there's no accountability. 5. Horrible work culture: There is no company-wide events, no bonding, everyone is VERY siloed. 6. Lots of drama and toxic work environment - a lot of people love to gossip! 7. Narrow-minded - maybe it was just my department; however, they had a very conservative outlook.
