Silicon Valley shine fades fast

Pros

Work is extremely easy and can get away with not working. Have free time to catch up on the latest news, follow my sporting teams, and text friends.

Cons

When I first came to work here, I was thrilled to work for a company in California and Bay Area But I now know this is a 12 year old company that is just based in Silicon Valley and drags the area's name like an emblazoned flag. I don't think the product is innovative as there are many companies and more established ones who make surgical guides. Other companies try to define the location not use the location as an advertisement. We should be the same. For example, Cupertino (not Cupertino based company, Cupertino by itself) is a synonym for Apple in many newspapers and journals. Seattle conjures images of Boeing. Portland is Nike.

Pros

A year ago, snacks would be a benefit. Today, snacks are gone half the time or when present are packets of paired stale water biscuits.

Cons

A lot of people here are entitled 20 something year-olds who would rather spend time watching television shows than work. These millennials, who proudly live at home and "rep" the Bay Area, believe they have the money to afford to go to Warriors playoff games or monthly vacations. Work proceeds very slowly as a result or not at all. Be prepared to count the seconds of the day. You will hear them complain consistently about wanting to leave to make a difference or for market pay to cover college and credit card debt.

Pros

I like how the quarterly bonus keeps me motivated. I enjoy working with like-minded individuals and having flexible working hours and lack of constant oversight. I also enjoy having breakfast here. My favorite is fruit yogurt.

Cons

I see the job as one third scheduling appointments and providing schedule updates, one third computer support like how to upload/use internet, and one third software assistance for doctors like drag and drop with use of few memorized medical location words. There are other duties like constant complaint handling but this is simple customer service like that provided by workers at telephone/cable companies. You read a dental book but that is more to try to "impress" yourself. There is a lot of burn out and complacency and it is hard seeing company lose by my guess 60-70 percent of the people since I worked here. Meetings and quizzes are poorly organized/written and useless.
