Pros

Pay rates are decent, benefits are good, all will change probably after our strike or lockout (contract up)

Cons

Building/ equipment in disrepair. Roofs leak and tarps go up to catch water. Equipment never maintained, only “band aided” back together to hopefully work until the next shift gets it to break down. Safety is a joke. Just do it take a risk to hurry and get it done. If someone gets hurt management tries to blame the employee- THEN they add a hundred gates, locks, safeties, e stops etc. things only get done when someone gets hurt, or a machine won’t run. Schedules are a nightmare. Choice of 2 types of 7 day schedules. Very little time off ever. Covering vacations and all the too many “short term disabilities” keep you at work for weeks at a time. Forget ever having a real life. Oh ArcelorMittal will answer that this is a 24 hr plant 365 days a year and sometimes you may have to work out of your schedule. You will always have to. Same people constantly call off same people are out every year on short term disability. It’s a zoo. ArcelorMittal “helps” by having us attend useless meetings and “classes” that require us to be there EVEN MORE THSN WE ALREADY ARE! You live there. People are a mix of nice , helpful, people but every area has at least one weed, the one troublemaker that wants to make your life miserable. It’s like prison, day after day same bs that never gets better. They claim to have no foreman and we are “self directed “ that was the case in the 90’s now it’s turning into a traditional steel mill. Operators just get blamed for all failures now.

ArcelorMittal Response

ArcelorMittal offers a competitive compensation and benefits package to both our salaried and represented employees. At this time, we remain in continuous dialogue with the United Steelworkers and are committed to reaching a fair and sustainable contract without a work stoppage. Safety is our number one priority. We are committed to promoting and protecting the safety and well-being of our people, yet we still face challenges in creating a zero accident workplace. We believe in the importance of strong labor relations in order to create a positive working environment. Employees are never disciplined for accidents and we welcome ideas to improve safety. Our facilities follow state and federal guidelines with respect to short term disability for health conditions. Unfortunately, as our operations run 24/7, shift or schedule changes may occur to ensure proper coverage. We recognize shift work can be challenging, but it is the nature of the steel industry. We operate extensive career enhancement programs that serve not only to ensure that our workforce is constantly learning and improving, but that members of the ArcelorMittal family have the opportunity to be motivated to develop. Ultimately, we seek employees that want to work with us to achieve their potential and create a rewarding work life.
