Pros

The team in Manchester are great. Super smart and friendly engineers, focused on building the best products to meet our customers needs. The location is unbeatable, with everything Manchester has to offer on the doorstep and outstanding transport links. The senior management team do a great job of giving direction (what is needed and why), without dictating execution (how to deliver, and how the team should run). This has allowed those of us at the Manchester location to build an ethos that feels more like a startup, whilst maintaining the job security, growth prospects and influence of a large company

Cons

None. I've never had a role I've enjoyed more.

Pros

Quite laid back culture. Good compensation and benefits.

Cons

The organisation is split into two areas of power - what might be termed as "Classic Arm" and "New Arm". Each of these are themselves split into several smaller fiefdoms. Communication between all these groups is almost non existent, and the general culture tends to be mutual distrust and suspicion. This culture extends to all levels of the company. The result is an inability to execute on any cohesive strategy, duplication of work, gaps, and missed opportunities. Attempts to improve in a way which crosses these boundaries often run into an internal political buzzsaw. Management is concentrated in the US, isolated and sometimes out of touch with most of the worldwide engineering organisation. Career advancement beyond a certain point is generally based on your ability to play political games, and unrelated to the delivery of customer value or innovation.

Many thanks for taking the time out to write a review. Our People team work hard to ensure we remain competitive with our compensation and benefits offering, your recognition of this is appreciated. The observations of the ‘New’ and ‘Classic’ cultures, that you refer to are interesting. As with any organisation that goes through growth, you will see adaptation and change. But with this being said, we are very proud of our inclusive culture which encourages everyone to be their brilliant self. Communications within large businesses is always a challenge, however, we have, and continue to, invest heavily into communal spaces and distributed technology to enable us to communicate more fluidly, we aren’t suggesting we are perfect, there is always room for improvement and your comments are appreciated. We are fortunate enough to have an evenly disrupted management team across the UK and USA, we aren’t heavily weighted in the USA. But with that being said, the teams travel a fair amount and I can understand why you would have assumed that was the case. We are continually evolving our customer-centric business vision. We are all about the creation of innovative ideas and solutions, our core focus is supporting great minds to pioneer the future of technology- it’s the backbone of our business. Again, we thank you for your comments and should you wish to discuss this further, we’d welcome a discussion: Glassdoor@arm.com
