The Academy used to be a great place to teach, and teachers felt appreciated. But the company has failed to fairly and properly address a huge problem with their pay structure. The base payrate for instructors has remained the same year after year after year. The company seems to believe that if there are still teachers willing to work for them, then pay increases are unnecessary, even as they see more and more of their staff leaving. To make matters worse, the company keeps raising student tuition year after year because of "rising costs." Just this year, my campus is raising tuition by a whopping 16.5% from $725 for 12 weeks to $845. That's an extra $360 per student per year with almost two thousand students at the campus. I'm not sure where this money is going, but it's not to instructors who are doing the actual teaching. It is a real shame. It seems the underpaying is also affecting full-time staff as directors keep fleeing the campus, and the advertised pay for new directors is the same it has been for many years, and lower than some other campuses that charge a fraction in tuition. The company has a lot of promise and talented people, but the greed and mismanagement have proven to be too much for me, and there are just better opportunities elsewhere.
