A Black Hole of an IT Department

Pros

The checks clear. This is a decent IT department to hide in, if your skills are sub-par or you do not want to learn anything new at your job. The work/life balance is the only real benefit to working here.

Cons

They offer essentially 0 health benefits. Legally, they should not be allowed to be their own health insurance provider, but thru PAC donations they've managed to find a loophole. Wages are well below average. Raises are comically lower than inflation. Promotions are lateral, or non-existent. It does not matter what you know; It only matters who you know and if they like you. Pucker up, and maybe receive a $30 gift card someday. This IT department above all else follows this rule "give me something new, but make it work exactly like the old thing". The tail wags the dog. Customers design their own software seemingly on a whim. Weak-willed and ineffective management never reigns them in or tries to hold them to any kind of requirements or scope. Eventually, the customer will complain that the project is not completed or late (how can it be when the customer will never sign off on it being complete?), and then employees are punished for something they cannot control. Above all, if you work in this IT department, you will be set up to fail, again and again. If you love to be marketed to by your own organization, you will find a lot of that here, too.

Pros

There are opportunities to take continuing education and advance your skills if you work in the right area. I have met some nice people. You earn vacation at a nice rate the provide dedicated and good patient care. You get a paycheck.

Cons

Let me begin: 1. There is absolutely no communication 2. The health insurance is terrible-the insurer is partly owned by CHS and the deductibles are ridiculous plus you cannot even get a prescription or doctors visit until you meet it. While there is a Live Well plan it doesn't touch the out of pocket costs 3 No raises to speak of.....if lucky you might snag a2%, mine 1.7% with a great evaluation 4. Management was terrible in my department.....again no communication cloaked in just being indifferent. 5. Short staffed a lot 6. High turnover 7. An attitude of the "good old boys club" 8. Have never worked for a healthcare institution that is in the newspaper as much as this one, not in a good way 9. A monopoly in Charlotte so there is nowhere else to really go and try know that 10. The CEO that left recently made so....much while I watched people I woke with just making it day to day. Disheartening.

Pros

Ability to "self schedule", I do not have many pros for working with this company, so I don't have anything to write

Cons

Poor pay, ability transfer to a new position is a long process. Management is NOT held accountable for their actions. Recruiters don't have much imagination when looking at candidates.
