There are many cons to working for this company, I saved the gravest one for last, so scroll down if you want the bottom line.
First con is that the management team in charge of the creative team are not properly equipped to manage this additional arm of the company's interest. The focus at the company is, and should be, the healthcare services they provide. However, the do not yet posses the proper infrastructure to allow for such ambitious goals as they have laid out to the creative team. I'm an Adobe Certified Editor and have been managing film productions for the past 10 years, and I have never come across such a blatant disregard for the work and knowledge-base it takes to properly do this type of work, nor such a distorted view of the effort it takes to achieve the long term goals they have laid out.
First and foremost, the company did not provide all the necessary equipment at any point while I was working for them, and I had to provide, and even in some circumstances, donate my gear to them in order to keep productions on their timeline. In addition, I also had to pay for my own software subscription as well, a service essential to my job function that cost me essentially half of a day's pay per month, despite the fact that I informed them I was paying for my own subscription. I provided music licenses from my own library and even filmed during off hours to meet their last minute demands of "no longer using stock footage and shooting entirely original content" yet maintaining an uninterrupted 3 videos per week.
The second major con is that the infrastructure and company organization is extremely unclear to the creative team, in the manner that the company operates day-to-day. This creates massive amounts of confusion and add to difficulties in completing job functions. Though you are managed day to day by a certain member of the management team, the content itself is solely directed by the owner of the company, a person with no background in marketing, advertisement, or content creation- and as such, any expertise a potential applicant has for this position should effectively be disregarded as you will be required to adhere solely to the owner's desires. This position is best suited for someone with technical proficiencies in editing and video capture only, no creative or real world strategic knowledge will be valued in this position. It may even come at a detriment to your standing with your management team.
Finally, the most definitive con of this company is its overall poor culture and racial insensitivity in Autism Behavior Service's content creation. On my 6th day at the company, I learned that within their animated series, they were using a white actress to portray of person of color within the show. Assuming this was done by mistake, I requested a chance to inquire more with the owner (the content gate keeper) but was denied and instead given a vague reason as to why this issue is not in fact an issue, and would not be discussed again. Having just started at the company, I decided it was best if I was patient and waited for a more appropriate time to reiterate that this was a very inappropriate practice. Finally, four months later the time came. The creative team making the objection again received a firm notice that this issue was not up for discussion. In response, I sent a formal letter to our manager informing them of the liability and the inappropriate nature of the practice. One week later, I was fired for "unrelated reasons" for which I was never notified of or given any warnings for prior. In fact, just a month and a half early I had received a positive performance review and had no knowledge of any critical performance issues. The one thing of note was the informed me they now wanted 3 videos per week from me, despite telling me in the interview and on my first day the were looking for 2-3 including their animation department as well. It is clear to me that this company does not value racial sensitivity in their content creation process, nor do they have the infrastructure or awareness to create an appropriate culture conducive to the sensitivity of creative work.
