Crazed micromanagement

Pros

Everyone without a managerial title was humble and great to work with.

Cons

CEO was terrible. Says one thing and does another. Wanted us to trust him but didn't give his entire workforce an ounce of trust. Management afraid to do what they know is right. Installed micromanagement software on all laptops and questioned you about inactivity for anything 2 minutes and up WHILE WORKING REMOTE BTW.

Positive Growth and Direction

Pros

Autosoft has grown much over the years! The leadership appreciates a sustainable and logical approach, focusing on the core software that has grown the company over the past 40 years, and on teamwork and challenging the defeatist mindset. They push to empower their employees and help them to grow. I feel very confident in the leadership and current direction of Autosoft.

Cons

Autosoft has had its ups and downs throughout the past, with continual challenges from some bad actors (which will be found in any workplace). I believe the true 'cons' that come really only happen when parties don't communicate well and refuse to work together toward a common good.

I couldn’t agree more with your perspective in stating Autosoft’s growth over the years has been built on focusing on what truly matters: strong software, teamwork, and empowering people to reach their potential. Hearing that you feel confident in our leadership and direction really means a lot, regardless of a few bad actors still posting negative statements trying to sabotage our success. You’re also right that every organization faces challenges along the way, and communication and collaboration are key to overcoming them. We’ll continue to focus on sustainable growth, supporting our teams, and promoting the culture that lifts each other up. I also appreciate your advice about staying grounded, looking for opportunities to grow, and not letting negativity distract us. That mindset is exactly what keeps us moving in the right direction, and I’m excited about what the future holds. Thank you again for being part of our journey! Anthony Belcher

Toxic environment

Pros

There is truly some talented employees that understand the functionality of dealerships and how to help clients.

Cons

-CEO has the management skills of a bully. He can't grow employees or lead, he spends more time talking about his past and bashing other employees. -The software needs lots of updating, it's almost 40yrs old and very few advancements. -There is no teamwork! -Random price increases thrown on customers with no warning or details of the new price. -HR needs to be more supportive to employees and tune into the bullying they are receiving from management. -Employees are being pushed to meet unrealistic goals, and when asked for support or help with obtaining those goals. They are threatened by the CEO to be replaced with someone else that has been begging him for a job. No mentorship is given, just met with a threat.

It’s disappointing Glassdoor allows fake reviews to continue being posted. Autosoft has grown significantly over the past 16 months but we still have bad actors in the organization, unwilling to help us change the historical toxic culture. Instead, they are consumed with hurting others and industry jargon. The CEO has nothing to do with price increases, which are handled by tenured employees in the Finance department, under direction from the CFO. Autosoft prides itself on absorbing as much cost as possible for our dealers and passing on the bare minimum needed to cover our operating expenses. This has been Autosoft’s philosophy for nearly 40 years, and we will continue to do so to assist the dealers we serve in the low-volume dealer space to provide the highest value at the lowest cost. From a staffing perspective, Autosoft doesn’t have an executive team today and has been operating extremely lean with little to no change over the past 12 months. Your statement of “someone begging him for a job” are false accusations and are without merit. We are focused on the commitments we make to each other with every team member owning their individual roles, executing at a high level and playing to win as a team. As for our product, it’s important to clarify that Autosoft has been serving low-volume franchise dealers for nearly 40 years. The strength of our platform is in its stability, ease of use, and affordability for the dealerships we serve. Continuous improvements and feature enhancements are continuously being made, and those updates are driven by dealer feedback, not by chasing complexity that doesn’t serve our core market. Finally, on the subject of leadership: I’m not here to tell you what you want to hear, rather I'm focused on doing the right thing for both our team members and dealer clients. I am direct and believe in the potential of our people, the mission we serve, which is helping low-volume, rural dealerships compete and succeed. If that sometimes feels uncomfortable, it’s because meaningful growth often does. Anthony Belcher

Pros

Not many. The only exception would be the few remaining employees and they care a lot, but are in a bad situation.

Cons

If you are desperate for work and have no other options, still take a second to reconsider this company and this is not a good place to work. Here are some facts. The company is being led by the 3 Stooges, which is the CEO, a CRO and a VP of People. The VP of People is a laughable title, because this person doesn’t represent the people and is there to do the bidding of the CEO. This person is over their head and wouldn’t be able to work at any other company with that title. Next is the CRO who is just as bad of a leader as the CEO and is the definition of a micro-manager as he won’t let anyone on his team take any action without getting his approval first. The CRO has no idea how to run a company, but thinks he is the CEO and wants everyone in the company to follow him. Unfortunately desire alone is not sufficient and to lead a company requires intelligence and he doesn’t have much of that. Just a huge ego and a desire to dismiss anyone on his team who has a different view than he does. Then there is the CEO who was a building contractor who took over the company started by his father. He has no idea how to run a software company or any interest in the automotive market, but he likes the paychecks that daddy’s company has been providing him with. Since he was never formally trained on how to lead people, he is unsure on how to drive his team. Example of this is that he utilizes tracking software to spy on people and see what they are doing every day. So if you you are not continuously typing on your keyboard or clicking your mouse, expect to get a call from your manager asking about your lack of Productivity. He also does not know how to recognize talent, especially in the leadership ranks. There have been a staggering number of leaders that have come and gone in the past few years (something like 25+). This calendar year alone I have observed the company lose 3 VP's and 3 Directors. These were all good people who couldn’t work with the 3 stooges and the company is worse off without them. That is a ridiculous number of leaders to turn over in one year and causes extreme confusion and concerns within the employees. In addition, every August/September time frame the CEO has a large layoff because he wants to finish the year with extra money. One just occurred in August of this year, which also happened the same time last year. Then he starts hiring again at the end of the year when he realizes he needs more people. However, the CEO has no care or concerns because in construction, workers are easily replaced, but in software, that is not the case. It takes a long time for people to learn the products to understand how to sell them and build them. This is why it has taken so long to create new solutions for the company to sell because there is a restart every year. For those considering working here, I would recommend you keep looking for your own happiness and sanity.

Pros

--> The people who work on making the software are generally good and actually care about the product they're building and what they're doing. The Product Owners are (were) some of the smartest, most dedicated people I've ever worked with. --> The work culture was, at least, really good for a long time.

Cons

--> Management is a joke and a disaster. There's either not enough managers so one's got 30 direct reports, or there's too many and now middle managers are attempting to do projects that they're wildly out of their depth for. --> In 2023 a new leader came in and (attempted) to move the company to Scaled Agile, which was a joke. A company with barely 200 people? What need was there for scale? Simply holding the Product Managers accountable for their failures would have had the desired result without also upsetting everyone else in Product Development, but no, direct confrontation is too hard, better to hire on someone new and rearrange everything so the issues can be addressed indirectly... --> Last I knew, they still had spyware on everyone's computers, a micromanaging power-hungry HR Director, and a CEO who still doesn't know what he's doing at all.

The team is supportive and willing to jump in and help at all times. Senior Leaderhsip is focused on providing a support and everyone works together to accomplish goals.

Pros

Remote work from home positions

Cons

There is no roadmap to success here for the company or the employees. You are strictly a cog in a wheel, robot, being micromanaged, watched and listened to with each word and keystroke. Employee opinions and suggestions are irrelevant. Positive change is talked about from the new CEO, but there is no apparent timeline as to when that will occur from a development or process scenario, let alone healthy workplace. Management has their own plans and it is strictly about numbers, KPIs and dollars. Customer experience is sorely lacking. Software is simple but cannot keep up with market trends. Company is a revolving door with employee terminations every 3 months! If you want a happy, successful workplace environment, look elsewhere.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. I value your feedback and know we have a long road ahead, particularly in explaining the why to our team members regarding historical tech debt that's been ignored, moving forward with “roadmap” language at the expense of current state. We are operating more like an internal start-up today with a purposeful evolution, focused on our team member's experience first, which has been ignored for years. That kind of change brings significant challenges, both good and bad, We are committed to changing our team members' experience to have a positive impact on our external customers. Unfortunately, turnover will continue for the foreseeable future until Autosoft builds an environment of capable and engaged people who execute daily with integrity and understand the commitments we make to each other and the organization. Culture change doesn’t happen overnight, and many can’t stomach the effort it takes to embrace change, leading to stuck, toxic cultures of being right. Autosoft is committed to doing the right thing and leading with integrity, both internally and externally. We understand people work to provide for their families, and we take our responsibility very seriously in building a sustainable growth business model to support our team members and external clients for many years to come. - Anthony Belcher

Pros

Few to be brutally honest

Cons

I worked at this company for two years as part of the software development team responsible for building a new platform — an initiative that was ultimately abandoned due to poor leadership, rampant mismanagement, and unsustainable costs. The company has since reverted to its outdated legacy system, a move that has done nothing to contribute to sustainable growth. The biggest problem is the CEO. Since taking over in early 2024, he has created a hostile and fear-driven environment. Conversations often devolve into tirades, and any disagreement — no matter how respectfully presented — is treated as insubordination. Employees are regularly let go for failing to flatter his ego, while competent staff either burn out or resign. His volatile temperament and messiah-like delusions make collaboration nearly impossible, and innovation has ground to a halt. What was once a promising company has become a cautionary tale of how toxic leadership can destroy morale, talent, and customer trust. I’m deeply grateful to have left and would strongly advise anyone considering employment here to look elsewhere.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. While I respect that everyone is entitled to their own experience, I do want to address the tone and some of the statements made here. Autosoft welcomes constructive criticism, but personal attacks, exaggerated characterizations, and disrespectful language are neither accurate nor productive. Since late 2024, Autosoft has been undergoing a significant transformation. These changes have been intentional, data-driven, and designed to strengthen the company’s long-term stability. In fact, Autosoft is more financially secure today than it has been in many years, and every major decision, including adjustments to product direction, personnel, and operational structure, has been made with sustainability and future growth in mind. I recognize that not everyone will agree with or fully understand the reasoning behind these changes. That’s true in any company navigating a major modernization effort. But disagreement must remain respectful. Positioning decisive leadership as “hostile” or referring to a CEO with inflammatory language does a disservice to the many dedicated team members who are working hard every day to move Autosoft forward. We expect professionalism, accountability, and collaboration from all employees, and we will always stand by decisions made to protect that culture. Pushing the company toward excellence is not “insubordination.” However, misalignment, refusal to collaborate, or undermining team direction certainly is. Autosoft is on a strong, stable path, and I ask current and potential team members to trust the process as we continue building a company that serves both our employees and our dealers better than ever before. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. Anthony Belcher
