Pros

Training is great at AvalonBay you are constantly assigned training its a great learning experience for a beginner in Property Management.

Cons

Corporate Structure is already set there is no room for ideas on different ways to do the job. Many parts of job ie answering the phone, touring, communicating with customers is very scripted. Customer Service scores dictate every aspect of your job, customer reviews are solicited by on site teams and seem in insincere.

Pros

The workplace seems to understand that employee morale is a factor in retention.

Cons

It is very difficult to work a schedule between 9am-5pm, which is odd for the industry. The unfortunate part for the workplace culture is that most people enjoy the things the company provides, such as having contests and giveaways, but seems to pretend to be happy working there. Very few people seem to genuinely enjoy working there. The career opportunities seem to be mostly lateral.

Pros

Mostly friendly on-site workers Good pay for the workload. Decent benefits. Some very good, and supportive managers

Cons

The Customer Care Center at HQ is pretty awful. Although there are a few good people there, most are incompetent and unfriendly. Regional managers frequently spoke of advancements, but promotions were very rare and highly political. I knew some very qualified people at my level who should have been promoted but were overlooked several times. Very hard to get weekends off unless you were a regional manager. Spent money on things that made no sense, but then wouldn't spend money on other things that seemed pretty important.
