If they make you an offer for employment with a salary, get it in writing. Treat every person you meet within management as a liar and make your own judgements. Do no favors and take no promises, treat it all like lies. This is the culture of this company. Beware of employees that have worked there a long time, they know all the tricks and they only want to work with managers that favor them. If they are friendly beware. Under no circumstance should you have any personal relationship with staff as a manger. It will backfire on you, and upper management will support the employee.
The company does not treat employees well. They have employees working the same job for several years with no raise and no training for other positions. The managers are treated like hourly employees and micro managed when doing the job as trained. The company also does not reward managers for performing well at the location level. You have to protest for a promotion or transfer even when doing the job as trained and getting results.
The reservation system is overbooked every day. The customers are rude! You will never have a good mix of vehicles unless managers manage the fleet properly. The fleet department does not care what you have to do to satisfy customers and neither does upper management.
Human resources will tell you how to do your job but they will not hire good employees. They will take years to fire employees that are dead weight. You will do your job as best you can with the resources given and still gain no recognition or support.
There is an expectation that you work 50 hours a week while being paid for 40 and that you come to work 30 minutes early and stay extra hours as a requirement.
The police often put tracking on customer rentals and the company allows it with no notice to the customer.
If you leave anything of value in the car, the chances of it being returned are slim, unless you complain to the corporate office.
Customers will complain about things that have nothing to do with you as the manager but you will have to take responsibility to make the upper management happy and show that you can. And those things will be held against you when you try to get transferred or promoted and you only took ownership to improve the customer relations.
You will manage projects and staff, and fleet and get good results and still be treated second class if you challenge management.
Management is supposed to be challenged up and supported down! There is only penalty for doing this with ABG.
Your coworkers will watch you do all the work and then when you complain to your manager he will tell you to make the best of it and stop complaining. On top of that you will have to manage the entire operation and upper management will have full knowledge of poor performance by other managers and you will be treated indifferently for speaking up and letting them know they are not being fair and they are not supporting getting the work done. And, if you don't demand top pay coming in, they will pay others more money and watch you suffer, until you quit.
This is a horrible company to work for as a manager. There is a white supremacist mentality among leadership. There are no blacks or latinos in leadership positions. if there are theres only a couple that were able to do one thing well and not have to manage other aspects of the business. They have an easier path due to training programs and favoritism.
You will have to listen to your manager make racial slurs and curse the employees you have to manage and build rapport with. That same manager will LIE to cover himself about situations that he gave poor leadership or no leadership. He will get demoted or transferred. You will get fired.
Each experience with a company is different, in any situation you must evaluate it in the first 90 days. If anything happens that is not proper, leave. The company needs you! The corporate culture of this company is horrible.
HR will do a good job blaming you and behind closed doors show upper management how they are making mistakes and such, but will never say to you the, manager or employee that an error was made. They will always try to make shift managers the scapegoat.
When you bring it to attention that your fleet department is skimming money through the cleaning service you will be fired. Every one is getting a pinch except you.
White managers are hand held and treated like fragile glass. They are trained for several weeks and given the best shifts. Blacks are trained for a few days and handed a shift. When you do a great job, they will look for flaws in your performance that do not exist. If you dare to complain you will be fired.
Your coworkers will completely ignore all the training regarded to sensitivity, racial slurs, and proper dialog regarding women and such and if you dare report them, upper management will say you are not a team player.
Racial slurs are common among employees and managers. If you hear it and send someone home, you can not admit it. You will have to lie because it does not cost the company money when this is done. It cost money to send an employee home. If you hold your staff to a standard of respect, upper management will be called sensitive. The first time you give the impression of disrespect, you will be questioned and reprimanded but the same standard does not exist for employees.
If you are a woman employee, you will completely get away with not doing your job. But if you do your job well, they will hold you in the position unless you reach out to the vice president.
If you are black, with no blemishes on your record they will hold you and try to manage you out if you want to leave or transfer.
If you cheat customers you will get paid and as long as you do it well, no penalty or even a word will be said, even if reported by customers daily.
Coworkers will complain about top performers and no action will be taken, the bottom line is most important. Quality of service means nothing unless it affects Regional and District managers bonuses.
Do a great job, work hard, work smart, deliver great customer service, increase market share, increase sales averages and work extra hours, the company will change the requirements of the position and give you poor remarks when other employers call to verify your employment, or they will say they never heard of you and completely invalidate your hard work.
This is a horrible company to work for!
