Avnet - down on it's knees

Pros

I feel like my customers are satisfied with my work, and they are happy for me to help them do business.

Cons

I can't do business easily with anyone that is not co-located. I can't reach them, there's no easy way to identify team alignment or how the business should be done.

Avnet has the opportunity to turn some things around if they execute and listen to the customer.

Pros

There are many senior level, seasoned employees who know the distribution business backward and forward and are extremely well respected by Avnet's customers. The folks in the trenches (inside and outside sales, product management, finance) go above and beyond expectations set by very demanding customers. If there is a way to make it happen, the people at Avnet will find a way to do it. Most people at Avnet work very hard and enjoy the people they work with daily.

Cons

The distribution business has suffered in some of Avnet's main product lines and due to that fact, the pressure has increased to drive the business to somewhat unattainable levels. Morale is down somewhat and many good people are either leaving or getting laid off. That is probably not very much different than a lot of tech companies in this economy but many of Avnet's customer are seeing other distributors step up and Avnet fall down.

Pros

I had a little bit better compensation plan and a more comfortable car. I must also say that I feel Avnet to be much more a global company compared to the previuos company I was working for (tough it was another world-wide IT distributor). In general, it is a company I would recommend to friends and ex-colleagues that are looking for a better job.

Cons

It is pretty difficult to understand what's going on in the company, especially - this is my case - when you're working as a tele-commuter. I believe some people in Avnet lack the ability to share information.
