Pros

Easy match with contacting opportunity for quick money

Cons

Long interview process, broken promises of incentives and raise, BELAY charges client more than DOUBLE your hourly pay, and the "Client Success Consultant" is not helpful in any way.

Pros

Clients you work with are awesome. Sometimes your client will send you gifts during the holidays. Some Belay employees will reach out when they should to make sure you're doing well in your engagement. If you're needing supplemental income this is a good place to work.

Cons

No health insurance. No bonuses. Not much help with tax season. Lots of role changes in their management. Interview process is lengthy. Pay increase is non-existant. Hourly pay seems to be lower than other work-from-home companies. You're a contractor to them, so if you need help with outside forms, you'll most likely get the run around.

Hello there and thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We are sorry that BELAY did not turn out to be the best fit for you. It is evident on our application that our roles are 1099 contractor roles and that it does not come with health benefits, overtime, etc. We discuss this during the interview process as well. As far as our pay rate, we are actually leading in hourly pay compared to our competitors. Additionally, we have not had any recent changes in our management, unless someone has gotten promoted which is only an asset to our contractors and clients. We believe we provide an incredible service for both clients and contractors alike, and our team is dedicated to serving well across the board. With that said, we have a dedicated Contractor Services team who gladly jumps in to help our contractors with any issues or guidance they may need. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your clients and we wish you all the best.

Pros

work from home flexible schedule

Cons

When I first started working for Belay in 2022 I thought it was a great opportunity to get some of the key things I was looking for in a job, which was the ability to work remote and have more control and flexibility in my day to day schedule, little did I realize that was the ONLY benefit in working for Belay and below I go into more detail about the actual reality of working as a virtual assistant at Belay verses the dream they sell. (in my opinion) 1. To begin, the interview process is long and tedious and you would think you were applying for a job that was six figures instead of $18-$22 dollars an hour. If you make it pass all the assignments, taping yourself on video, interviewing over the phone and on zoom, and finally get hired Belay is not quite done putting you to the test. After you are hired and complete Belay 101 where they tell you "getting this job is harder then getting into Harvard" (give me a break), you get access to their job board where once again you will have to apply for an engagement you think would be a good fit for you and standout among the many many others also applying for that same engagement. If you get chosen(after a phone interview, then a zoom interview), and that's a big if, because for some it can take a while before you get matched. (And I have heard, if you do not get matched within 90 days they will let you go all together) 3. After starting your first engagement( and hopefully things are going well), you start to realize the amount of work you are doing(Varies based on the client) is so disproportionate to the little amount you get paid and what Belay is making off of your hard labor (which can be double or MORE what you are getting paid), you can start to feel very demoralized about the choice you made to work for this company. 4. The chances for career advancement or a significant increase in pay is slim to none, and Belay(in my opinion) purposefully structures it this way, let me explain. Even if your client is thrilled with the work and everything is going great, the most you are going to get is a $1 raise per hour after you have worked for the company for one year. In a dream world, you could hope that your client buys out your contract (for an astronomical amount of money) and you have some upward mobility with your client within his/her company. However, the chances of that happening are slim to none do to the amount of money required to do that. 5. You are more disposable then ever. If a client decides to end the engagement with you for a number of reasons( can no longer afford services, the engagement is not working out, ect.) You are left with having to start the process all over again and find another engagement each and every time this occurs. And, in my opinion it occurs a lot, because the client starts to realize why am I paying Belay when I could hire my own assistant for less money. 6. In order to be full-time(if that's what you desire) you have to have two or more engagements. This can be very tricky when you are juggling your time and workload, and I'm not saying this can't be done, I just feel you shouldn't have to. Also, it makes things even harder when you want to take time off because you still have to make sure you complete the hours you are contracted for, because there is no such thing as PTO at Belay. (for virtual assistants, bookkeepers, social media managers) 7. Lately(and I know I have written a novel lol) I decided that if I stayed at Belay I was going to look back and feel like I was stuck in a space time continuum. I was going to be in the same position and have the same salary (because there is a cap of what they are willing to pay), and I didn't want to resign myself to that fate. Because, working at Belay only works for the few not the many. Maybe, it is a good fit if you looking for a little extra money or you are retired looking to fill your day, ect. However, if you are young, excited about a career, wanting to grow, Working as a virtual assistant at Belay will provide none of those things.

Pros

They work very hard to vet potential contractors to work virtually as admins, assistants, bookkeepers, etc. When they've chosen you as a contractor for their repertoire, congratulations, because you're someone they see as valuable and bringing something to the table. They offer great flexibility to those who need a stay at home work environment. They put a lot of effort into placing clients and contractors based on a multitude of factors, and it really helps make work enjoyable for everyone involved.

Cons

Multi-stage interview process. It was about 6 weeks from application to hire. It can take weeks to get placed with a client. The pay is decent, but not necessarily comparative with all markets.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide this feedback! We're so glad BELAY has been a great fit for you! All clients are able to buy-out the contract of any contractor. We love that this is an option and opportunity for growth for the contractor when it's a great fit! Also, our team discusses pay rates for contractors often and location (cost of living) is one of the many factors that already helps us determine each contractor's pay rate. Thank you for trusting that we want the very best for all of our contractors. Thankful that you're here!

Pros

Have you ever started at a company and felt like just a number? Have you started and just had a binder thrown at you with information for "training"? Have you had a job where you sit back and think "What's the point of this company? What's the point of my actual job? Does it even matter"? I have. That all ended the day I started working at Belay. Actually, it ended before that! It ended during my interview process, before I even became a team member. This company has done an amazing job at actually making you understand WHY you're here, WHY the company exist, and the POINT of it all. The on boarding process is unmatched and the clear mission and values allow for you to understand that this company is so much bigger than ourselves. Thank you, Belay, for creating this culture that allows clients, contractors, and employees to thrive and flourish in their day to day lives.

Cons

That I didn't take the leap of faith and start sooner.

Pros

Working from home is a HUGE benefit. While it definitely isn’t for everyone, it has been such a huge blessing especially having a young family. The leadership genuinely cares about your wellbeing and trusts you to get your work done.

Cons

None! Don’t be scared away by the long interview process (and it is long!) it ensures that you will be joining a great company with great people.

Thank you! A longer interview process can be challenging for a variety of reasons, however, it's always worth it in the end when you (both the interviewee and employer) find the perfect match!
