Pros

Casual attire Free drinks and food (sometimes)

Cons

For the sake of brevity, we'll just tackle the glaring issues: (1) Managers are unqualified to the point of it being embarrassing - know nothing about sales and business but rather just say YES to blind leadership, bark orders and conduct meaningless meetings that waste a great deal of time and takes away from daily activities (which then affects your performance). Very poor choices in managers (2) Ethics don't exist - make your number no matter what and even then, you aren't guaranteed anything. A lot of cheating, loopholes, nepotism/favoritism, and too political. This place is a circus and a high school at the same time. Gossip, cliques, everyone judges. Just plain awful for an "enterprise" company (3) Customer perception - very poor. BMC screwed a lot of customers over in the past with extremely poor customer service. They became known as the company that would disappear until the contract was up and then upcharge customers upon renewal. They will brainwash you into thinking they're "leaders" but its all based on biased reports. Don't believe a word. (4) Very few good territories - just gotta get lucky with this one. 80% of the territories and alignment are trash, and they expect entry-level sales reps to "figure it out". Maybe managers should lead by example? But that would mean actually doing something.

Pros

Comprehensive private health insurance Wish I could find more but the work environment has been deteriorating: no learning, no work/life balance, poor product

Cons

As the company is transitioning from onprem to a saas model, it seems to me that leadership and middle management really seems to struggle with getting the right execution/setup resulting in many staff who are overworked. I guess this is what happens when concerns raised don't go to top management or they simply just don't listen, all while the leadership team keeps on saying how people are its most important asset, yet they do something that is the complete opposite. Eg. -Laying off much needed staff without any regard on how it may impact operations for existing staff who keeps on taking a crazy amount of additional workload -No learning can take place due to workload / or no coverage -Poor career development (coaching is non-existent, minimal, and no formal procedures) -Management's answer to everything is always 'no budget' -As a career development initiative, leadership team came up with the idea of taking staff off queues to maintain documentation (How is that helpful to a tech person's career you may ask showing that management is completely out of touch) -Leadership's use of buzz words and hiding behind pretty powerpoint slides and charts during all hands meetings (may be because they are unaware of the daily struggles of the team on the ground) -Poor communication across teams; teams unresponsive and focused on meeting their own targets -No proper enablement / tools to do our job well: access, or some other setup is often broken, which we need to sort out ourselves on top of having to do our own job -Lack of procedures: Always a goose chase when trying to find the right information -Scattered information which is always hard to find

Pros

I've been with BMC for 4 years now and I've seen so many changes during this time. The Flexibility of working from home is absolutely ideal. My commute into the Santa Clara office can sometimes be as long as 2 hours, so this flexibility is huge for me. The people of the SCC campus team are great, friendly and very knowledgeable. Free lunch is provided 4 days a week, so that saves time and money, and the pantry area is always stocked with snacks, fruits and breakfast items to keep you going. There is also free Soda, coffee & Tea. We've been in the SCC offices for about 18 months now, and they are nice and bright with windows everywhere. The workstations are fully adjustable allowing both standing and sitting. Although a very open-concept workspace, it is fairly low in the noise level. The Sr. Management offices are in the interior, allowing all others the floor to ceiling window views, which is quite nice. The benefits package is pretty good with decent choices. Lots of Informational gatherings about industry standards and cutting edge technology. Great supportive sessions for women in the workplace and guest speakers coming onto the campus.

Cons

There has been several Sr. Executive layoffs over the past 4 years. In 4 years, I've had 4 bosses, seen at least 6 Sr. executives get laid off. Every April there are layoffs, and you never know if it'll be your turn (there doesn't seem to be a method to the madness). Although we have a twice annual bonus structure, in 4 years I have only seen a 100% payout once, it usually only pays out 50%, then depending on your ratings (can be less than that). In 2017, moral has been super low, we've seen the President or our division get his walking papers, and so many more changes within the SCC location , it seems most people have doubts or uncertainties about their future here. The current overall climate is quite and no-one talks about the most recent changes out loud. Sr. staff attempts to give reassurances, but I can tell folks are questioning their future with BMC. No where enough cultural diversity. The scales are tipped drastically in favor of "cheap labor." Making it impossible to hire more diversity within the USA. There is a new company president, so lets see how things finally shake up.
