Pros

Bailed out UMC so that Tucson continues to have a trauma 1 hospital

Cons

Banner continues to buy buildings. These buildings are hospitals that care for patients. One size does not fit all. Patient care has to be 1st priority, no matter what. Take care of your employees - pay them Better.

Pros

I have been with Banner for over 10 years. The primary reason I accepted a position with Banner initially, aside from the job itself, was the comprehensive benefit package and liberal vacation accrual. The pay scale is ok, but certainly not competitive with other large healthcare institutions.

Cons

Every year marks another decline in wages and a sharp increase to the employee portion of health and dental benefits. Employees with seniority have a difficult time receiving a fair merit increase due to the unbalanced metric used for determining yearly increases. There is a definite "in crowd" mentality within management.

Pros

Many facilities. This is a big pro. Many opportunities within the Banner network due to the vast amount of facilities. Management opportunities Very focused on patient satisfaction. Great co-workers Supportive front line management (varies from department to department) Caring staff Modern facilities Latest technology (e-ICU, medication scanning, total electronic charting...)

Cons

Inadequate staffing (over the years, Banner has continuously decreased support staff, and the patient acuity is higher then ever. In some facilities, they have even raised the patient to nurse ratios making the work load unmanageable). Uncaring upper management (Varies from facility to facility) Tuition reimbursement only given to some employees. Not a true benefit. Anyone can apply for tuition reimbursement, but they only award it to some of its employees. Even if you meet all the qualifications (approved program, employee in good standing, full-time...), you can still be turned down without being given a reason. I was turned down twice even though I met all of the qualifications. This conveys a message that education is not valued. 4 hour push back. If the census is low, management can call you at home before your scheduled shift, and put you on a 4 hour push back. This means that you do not come in for your scheduled shift, but instead, you stay home by the phone (without pay) waiting for them to call you for up to 4 hours just in case they need you to come in on your already scheduled shift. If they dont call you, then you are officially canceled for your regularly scheduled shift. Automatic paycheck deduction for health care. In order to get health benefits from Banner, you have to sign an agreement stating that they can automatically deduct from your paycheck any owed amounts (deductibles, co-pays, uncovered services) anytime you use a Banner facility or provider.
