Pros

Really loved the mission of the organization, and the people I worked with. Several business leaders were awesome and understand the changes needed in healthcare

Cons

The CIO and her leadership with two exceptions are not collaborative leaders, and care more about building their own empires instead of doing what is right for the patients of Banner Health. The CIO allowed a leader to ignore ethics, throw business to personal friends and former employees on a product that wouldn't work, and wasn't capable of delivering on the outcomes required. It took a few years before the backlash was enough that the CIO had no choice but to step in and do something. It seems like She had a vendetta again. The CIO prides herself on creating a great place for IT, yet stops anyone who is trying to move the ball forward and progress IT modernization. She has her own communications department that is focused on making Her look good because she's an ineffective leader.

Pros

My colleagues were, for the most part, good people.

Cons

This was micromanagement at a level I've never seen before. Everyone seemed so stressed and literally scared of management. The culture is extremely toxic. Banner’s corporate policies are unsavory, ethically questionable, and the benefits are lousy. The patient workload is too much…and then add on a bunch of other expectations like fixing scheduling errors and obtaining new orders, etc. As another reviewer said, this is the Walmart of healthcare. The schedule squeezes out any bit of joy you used to find in your career. There's no time for patient rapport. You won't have time to go to the bathroom. You'll frequently work through lunch. It’s all about the bottom dollar. Don't dare bring up any concerns to management, you'll get a passive aggressive response and a screenshot every time….as well as a target on your back. Management is not only unsupportive, but seem to enjoy pushing out good people. In short, management enjoys bullying and harassment and rewards other employees who do so. Trust no one.

Pros

Modern HR structure Excellent, award-winning patient care fueled by passionate frontline staff and respected nursing leadership Solid intranet and improvements made to workplace technology Modernized dress code

Cons

Ineffective Sr. HR leadership with questionable ethics who lack vision, quality people strategies, and engagement with their own HR team Little to no development for HR employees High HR turnover that isn’t properly addressed. No exit interviews, stay interviews, or focus groups were done within HR during my duration at the company or after I resigned. No meetings with CHRO or Sr. leadership levels about broader HR-specific employee satisfaction survey results and no communication about actions being taken to improve HR’s employee experience Antiquated processes and policies that diminish their pay for performance philosophy and drive away high-performing employees No quarterly webcasts that educate employees about the company’s performance Lack of diversity and inclusion programs that address internal biases Uninvolved CEO. Doesn’t do webcasts for employees or make appearances to show appreciation for people’s work. Most people I spoke to never met him although they’ve worked there for years.
