Decent but could improve

Pros

free gear, lots of training and opportunity to advance yourself. Depending on the location of your office, plenty of overtime and weekend work if you need it. Decent benefits and mostly new equipment and tools to work with. One of the safest companies in the industry, you will learn to be safe and want to show others that they are doing it wrong

Cons

This can vary depending on your office, I work at one of the larger offices and the HR department in terrible. Hard to get anything done and if you need something good luck getting it on the first visit to the office. I have worked for several small offices during storm emergencies that wanted to help and were more friendly. Promotions are not based off of performance but checklists and paper work. Management never seems to remember that you helped them out on a difficult job or worked a 15 hour day for them when it comes to reviewing your wage. Management does not value you as an asset but rather a strong back that will complete jobs in the amount of time they need you to. Jobs can be underbid and never seem to come out and this reflects badly on you.

Pros

The job is extremely easy

Cons

The district administrative assistant was abusive and manipulative, deliberately misinforming me on how to conduct processes then punishing me for doing things incorrectly. I was not allowed to leave the building and without a break area, that meant spending all day at my desk. When she was working in my office, she told me on several occasions I was not allowed a break. At performance review time, the day after review the review “disappeared” and I was required to sign off on one that was missing information. After reaching out to HR about the abuse I was only subjected to further abuse by my boss. Additionally, there appears to be no opportunity for upward mobility from my position.

Pros

- Corporate wants to prioritize safety and science.

Cons

- Hierarchy means implementation of safety standards is highly dependent on top down priorities of division managers and the managers they employ. - Focus on quantity over quality has many implications including: managers that get big sales with corporate clients aren't held accountable for the many smaller-scale clients and homeowners they ignore, and never call back. The reputation of the company has taken hits locally in areas on the west coast for this reason. - Poor manager-client communication results in tree crews showing up 'unannounced' sometimes with paperwork in for client to sign: crews and administrators must be good at client communication - The first thing I was told, unanimously, was that no one felt valued by the managers. The only people putting in their best effort were the few who did so for their own integrity and pride in work ethic, despite the poor leadership. Additionally: company culture is therefore competitive rather than cooperative, no one wants someone else to get ahead. - Little foresight or long-term thinking for the company benefit by the office manager. - Little to no office led on the job safety or safety training, except when external higher-ups come to check in on their 'problem offices' - Profit focus leaves employees and clients in the dust - Quality Control..
