Pros

Level 1 trauma center means you get a lot of interesting traumas. The work atmosphere is wonderful compared with other teaching hospitals I have been to. The attendings are friendly, respectful, and helpful. There is a sufficient workload to gain proficiency yet not so much that you feel overwhelmed. Additionally, this hospital is a Tufts associate meaning that you get a piece of paper with some name recognition at the end. Pay is above average. The location is about 30 minutes away from an international airport as well as within driving distance or Boston and New York. This hospital is right on the border of being in the country so you can relax when you go home.

Cons

To be honest I have no major complaints about this hospital. Some of my co-residents seem to think that this not being a large city such as New York is a drawback. Other than that, no one complains much.

Pros

Baystate Health was, by far, the most progressive, employee-centric organization I have ever worked for. After being laid off, former employees' names are kept on a first-contact list for one year. They are also assigned to a recruiter, who assists them with future employement opportunities at Baystate.

Cons

I had no negative experiences working at Baystate. However, even though I had a recruiter and had applied for numerous jobs, I was passed over again and again. I have a college degree, several years of relevant experience and all the required computer skills for these jobs. The positions I applied for were administrative assistant jobs, and I had all the qualifications and then some. Time and time again, however, I was told that the hiring manager wanted someone who had worked as an administrative assistant. One hiring manager who interviewed me expressed concern that I would be "bored."
