Pros
Family owned and operated for over 100 years. Few store closures. Some really great people working for the company. Click & Find is a great feature for the guests. Guests themselves are awesome and really love shopping here because of the merchandise being at such a low price. Some buyers do a great job with getting Florida right merchandise in the stores, especially Home/Trim, private label and Leoma. Situational Leadership class was valuable training provided.
Cons
Out dated infrastructure. Sales reporting is cumbersome and the majority of the time not accurate, however apparently doesn’t matter as sales are seldom spoken about, mostly credit card results, and if processes/tasks are accomplished. Many checklists, binders to keep up with and doing tasks over due to poor direction was given or a system was down. Company goals change a lot as do priorities which are unrealistic. Too task driven without the payroll to fund processes to be successful. Total culture lacks integrity and transparency. Jobs filled that were never posted for others to apply for. Setting the sales are a waste of time, way too many coupons and without people counters really hard to look at conversion and how to staff appropriately for all the coupon, and earn/redeem events. Abandoned buggies throughout store, no staff to keep up with floor maintenance, racks of go backs and everyone running all day, however sales don’t warrant the staff. Staff that is on the floor to recover and clean out fitting rooms have to work with the guests as there are so many who need help(very mature guest) and then tasks do not get accomplished. NPS scores are outstanding as is guest engagement, however tasks are not completed. All mid level management are under compensated and hourly which impacts either supervision and the Guest experience or actually completing the workload. No one feels accomplished or like they add value therefore resulting in high turnover. Hamster. Wheel.
