Pros

The pay is good, you earn an hourly rate plus commission on what you sell as a cosmetic employee. The most rewarding part is working with customers at a higher more personal level.

Cons

The work life balance is awful. You work very long hours that varies from week to week. Belk is open almost every holiday and stays open until midnight leading up to Christmas. Management is varied by location, but some stores have the worst managers in place. Belk penalizes you for being sick, even if you have a doctors note your absence counts as an "unexcused absence" and if you only have a few of those before you are terminated.

Pros

good benefits(medical, dental, vision, 401K matching) good employee discount( 20% off all merchandise including clearance AND 40% off on special designated employee double discount weekends. - about 15 per year) No weekends usually. Stable shift hours.

Cons

Belk was bought out by Sycamore Holding Company - they own Torrid: Talbots and other smaller retailers. They have created terrible chaos at Belk. They can't control buying and distribution AT ALL. They have insane expectations of staffing hours, and cannot clearly communicate any sort of message about the new Belk brand. I honestly believe they are out to ruin Belk and liquidate the company.

Pros

Not any I can think of.

Cons

I am writing this a few months since I've been gone. Since I left, I keep in touch with many of my former co workers. There are almost never raises, people defecate and urinate in the fitting rooms. Management is three sheets to the wind with the exception of a few employees. Corporate is so snobby that when helping them, they won't even say hi back to you unless you are important enough in their eyes. Definitely a good seasonal position if you can dodge them trying to permanently hiring you because they're desperate. I worked there seasonally but then ended up staying on for some time.
