Great Place to Grow

Pros

The company has a great CSS structure and reputation. It is a great product to own. Engineering is a talent pool that is growing and learning.

Cons

Sudden and distructive business decisions that serve the quarter and not the long term picture. Bell is not sure what it is doing in the Commercial market anymore and has been worked over by the competition.

Bell is changing for the better in 2009...

Pros

Fairly new leadership put in place, which is helping to execute change faster. Talent development is starting to be a bigger focus for 2009, which is opening up more opportunities for Generation Y employees. Bell is located in Hurst, TX which is between Dallas and Fort Worth, so there are many fun and affordable places to live and still be within 15 minutes of work. Lastly, the compensation is good for the area of Texas. Bell also has a Canadian division located Montreal, Quebec and is part of the Textron Enterprise, so there are also opportunities to move outside of Texas.

Cons

Employee morale is lower compared to other companies. There are a lot walls put up between departments so it makes it difficult to get things done.

Pros

The products are amazing. The vacation schedule includes a holiday shut down, which means that you end up with about four weeks off each year. The training opportunities were very good - particularly those pushed down through Textron. Employees are nice and hard working, so there is good opportunity to find friends. It's a good company to learn the A&D industry because they make both military and commercial products. Also, it is small enough that depending on your job, you could be attached to several products in various lifecycle stages.

Cons

There are too many obstacles to getting things done. First, there is a lack of transparency around processes related to hiring and promotions. It is especially difficult to transition from intern or contractor to fulltime/permanent employee. Second, they restructured all the time - people would be moved on and off of tasks or projects in short time frames. By the time you become comfortable in the work you are doing, you might be moved again. It wasn't always clear whether moves were because of business need, reward, or punishment. It was very stressful without necessarily being satisfying or rewarding. Words that describe the situation: unfair, chaotic, stressful, difficult, frustrating, unhealthy.
