The Office Coordinator position is grossly underpaid compared to the value that they bring to the clinic. A job well done goes highly unrecognized by supervisors. Office coordinators are responsible for maintaining authorizations, scheduling patients, and providing customer service that makes patients want to come back to Benchmark and recommend our clinic to others as well. All of these things are crucial to the financial success of the clinic, yet this does not show in the office coordinator pay rate.
Anyone considering the office coordinator position should also know that the “bonus” system they have set up is almost impossible to achieve. It requires a month straight of metrics that depend largely on factors the OC will have no control over.
Another con, not from the administrative side, is the HUGE emphasis by the corporate office on scheduling as many patients as possible. I, personally, work for a moral PT who places high importance on the quality of patient care - he sacrifices monetary gain to make sure that he can treat patients well. A physical therapist that is still getting the hang of things would probably not be capable of seeing the number of patients that the company asks of them. Patient care at the local level is sacrificed for the financial well-being of the company.
