Worst Beauty Company I’ve ever worked for

Pros

Free products twice a year

Cons

Pay is not based on experience or any real measure and is below market Was subject to the erratic behavior of a disgusting female executive who controlled a good portion of decisions and set the tone for a terribly caddy and caustic work environment. Everyone cowered to her and followed her like sheep - especially her team leaders. No one stood up. Sad example of female leaders for the next generation.

Pros

The HQ is a super unique place to work, and it's great to be in the city. Most people are super supportive of one another, and you get access to new products before they are released. Progression seems to be fairly quick. Culture is a huge part of the life there and they do a lot to make it an enjoyable place to be (Waffle Wednesday's, mixers, auctions, baseball games etc.). I love that they are really proud of their history and you can see this throughout the office.

Cons

Expectations are sometimes very unrealistic from VPs and attitudes don't help matters. Sometimes higher-ups talk to you like you're dirt, and it can be really demoralizing. Vacation is only 15 days to start, which is really low and the pay could be higher considering the location. Job descriptions are not accurate and you will probably doing a job that would garner a much higher title and salary, but you are positioned as something else to avoid having to pay you more. Health benefits are ok but not fully paid for. Expect to work long hours around launch and presentation times.

Depends on Your Department...

Pros

Free makeup! Monthly "mixers" at the on-site office rooftop, which also doubles as a lunchroom. Great downtown location and a somewhat fun atmosphere. People work 9-5 and no one worries about it. Good bonuses because the company is making money, but don't bank on that continuing...

Cons

Everything is pink. It becomes a little nauseating. The "fun" atmosphere that's promoted is a bit forced, if not complete denial. No one is really having that much fun. People that work extra hours are just creating stress for themselves and their teams: it's makeup, get over it. The products are good, but not high-end or even based on what's actually good for your cosmetics routine. Nothing is natural... The upper management are completely entrenched and like a bad tenured professor, they don't like new ideas or ways of doing things. Maybe it's the LVMH culture, but most of the Directors & VPs have been there for far too long and they're completely out of touch with what's new and innovative. They're reactive rather than proactive, and they certainly don't think of anything first. There's a lot of young, fresh, talent around but they aren't permitted to excel and therefore they burn out and leave. The management does not have a culture of fostering people and getting them to grow (unless you're in the Digital Department - they make things happen), but otherwise you are on your own. The higher-ups perceive growth as a threat. Forget about enlisting the HR department - they will not help you.
