Know your Worth, and Know that Benefitfocus Won't!

Pros

I made some lifelong friendships. More importantly I learned my worth and found my voice which has excelled my career tenfold. Though, this did not come easy and without great stress.

Cons

You will not get paid what you are worth. Management is done based on tenure and cliques versus skill set and management abilities. Those who want to make an impact and speak up to fix issues are treated poorly and pushed out.

Helping associates with their career path is important to us. Many of our team members have been successful in multiple roles here and we are so happy to have them progress within the organization. I am sorry that was not your experience. We do appreciate the feedback and will continuously review our mobility program to ensure it supports career development and employee engagement. If you would like to share your ideas for improvement, please feel free to reach out to me. My email is stephanie.feals@benefitfocus.com.

Pros

Those in sales seem to live the high life. Pricey dinners wooing customers, traveling with the CEO on private planes and spending what we can only imagine is a 3-figure budget on their "club". And the folks who answer the phones and deal with irate customers get free coffee

Cons

With the current stock price being a focal point, the big con (how appropriate a word) for me as an investor is that the aforementioned sales team will travel to a $5k a night resort to celebrate their "success" as we anxiously await the earnings report, likely to be another lackluster quarter. Yes you read that correctly - Benefitfocus Club at the Rosewood Las Ventanas in Cabo happening late February while the stock price is an all time low. If that doesn't upset you, it should.

Time for the board to make a move

Pros

I’ve been working here for several years and overall enjoy the company and people I work with. I don’t have any intentions of leaving any time soon, but significant changes need to happen.

Cons

We have a significant challenge with our current leader. While things like Q&A’s are great, we hear the same corporate message over and over. Approval processes are slow, and everything requires CEO approval. We have many issues to fix, including technical debt, the ability to execute our roadmap, and service issues/gaps, all of which are exacerbated by significant control at the top. The CEO has surrounded himself with YES people rather than people who challenge and innovate, or are even responsible for their own parts of the organization. Moreover, his leadership team (which trickles down further) are for lack of a better word, fearful of the CEO. He may ask great questions, but execution or willingness to be coached is nonexistent- he feels he is the expert on all things, rather than hiring experts to run their parts of the business. I have heard MANY associates say that they feel a change needs to happen in that top seat in January, otherwise even more top talent will walk out the door. I hope the board acts quickly to make a move. What more evidence do you need than our stock price that just hit it’s all time low? There is an expectation set by leadership to be working or on call 24/7... but we’re not saving lives here. The urgent mentality, fire drills, and poor planning starts at the top. Associates will continue to leave if this is not addressed. While this may sound like a rant, it’s truly not meant to be- just voicing concern for a major issue that needs to be addressed. If it is- outlook looks bright. If not, I’d be worried and would start looking.
