Pros

team is growing, the office environment gets better and clients are excited to work with you, workload is manageable compared to other software startups.

Cons

Even they post engineer positions with fancy tech stacks, at the end the only engineering work you need is API integration. Definitely not that attractive to talents and not a great addition to your resume if you start looking for your next job. Mostly one-time customers (people barely migrate their emails multiple times) so the business pressure is always there because you do not have long-term customers. That also limits the value of the company because both IPO and being-acquired will be a tough call.

From the CTO... Appreciate the positive comments about growth, customers loving our solutions, and the work environment. I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience working for BitTitan, but I'm also not sure how you (as a web developer) ended up working on API integration. Regarding web development and the technology stack, we were among the earliest adopters of Ember.js and made a strong bet on the technology when it was in its infancy. For example, our FE team has been attending the Ember conference for the past 2 years. Why? Because we see huge value in making sure we use front-end technology that is both modern and relevant. I also think it's pretty easy for everyone to get to the truth. Login and take a look (right click, view source welcome). You'll find a modern web interface - all built using Ember.js, localizable in multiple languages, based on well-designed REST web services. No heavy API integration there. Now, it's absolutely true that our back end team has deep expertise in enterprise API integration. This is not for everyone, but it is what it takes to migrate the world's data, to connect to thousands of systems, or to enable migration of archives worth hundreds of terabytes. However API integration has never been a requirement for FE software engineering at BitTitan. Finally, based on similar logic, U-Haul should go bankrupt because "people barely move to a new home" (U-Haul is a 4 billion, 18,000 employee company). And while most people who leave a company think of themselves as top talent, the reality is that our attrition is less than a third of the industry's average. Our development team is made of strong developers. It is because of their passion and hard work that BitTitan is growing, and that we're adding value to our customers and our company every day.

Pros

I'm starting my third week here, and so far it's been the best place I've ever worked. They take good care of you here, and the people are top-notch. The culture is fantastic; the management works on the product directly, alongside the staff, there are no "corner offices", they are just a regular part of the team. The HR folks are wonderful, and do everything they can to keep the team happy. The facilities are amazing, high tech, modern, and inviting.

Cons

BitTitan maintains a fully-stocked kitchen for their employees, with high-quality food, including a soda machine. This is actually amazing and very positive, the only thing that's a "con" about it is that I have to use self-control because I'm trying to lose weight. They make up for this with a great exercise facility, so you can work off the calories you gained in the kitchen.

Thank you for the feedback and review. I'm glad to hear your first few weeks have been so awesome. We want everyone to feel that exact feeling every time they walk into work! If that feeling ever changes, or you think of ways we can improve, I hope you will reach out to let us know. Thanks again!

Not a place for talents

Pros

The company makes tons of $. Good work-life balance for people with family.

Cons

I do not understand why this company is just looking for "cheap" developers. The package they provide is the very low end of the current job market. As a result, it moves super slow even the team grows a lot in the past years. There are very few top performers but neither will stay long enough for various reasons. Not a great place for people passionate about technology and enjoy the speed in a cool startup. The culture is a bit weird too because nearly half people are from one country.

From the CTO... I'd like to address some of the negative feedback. First diversity. Our engineering team is extremely diverse. At this time, our engineering team includes American, Belarusian, British, Canadian, Chinese, French, German, Pakistani, Russian, Singaporean and Spanish nationals. Our culture is naturally diverse because of our two office locations (Seattle and Singapore). Second speed. We've consistently doubled in size every year within our short history. It's impossible to sustain this kind of speed without engineering keeping pace. At the same time, the way we develop new features is probably more organized than the chaos you'd find in a "typical" startup. Within the last year, our speed has allowed us to transform from a leader in mailbox migrations to a leader in migration of all types of electronic content, as well as new automation solutions. Third talent. Our retention is several orders of magnitude higher than average for the industry. Our team is definitely not made of "cheap developers" but includes a wide spectrum of experience levels (from new college graduates, to senior developers with 20 years of industry experience). Many of our employees graduated at the top of their class, come from top-ranked universities, or had significant levels of responsibilities before joining BitTitan (see employee profiles on LinkedIn). Regarding our compensation package, we use industry surveys to ensure that our compensation matches market expectations. Our package also includes excellent benefits (including unlimited PTO, free health care, free dental, free vision). At the same time, we do believe that stock and performance-based incentives should be important factors in any employee's compensation. Taking everything into account, our compensation packages are most definitely competitive. Finally, profitability is important to us because it keeps us honest. If you want to work for a "cool", unprofitable startup, then we're definitely not a good choice.
