Pros

Dog friendly environment, some good people still left.

Cons

Useless HR Department. If you take a complaint about a senior manager, be prepared to be brushed off and then have a target put on your back. HR does not look out for employees best interest. They are there solely to protect the corporation. If you still want to have time to climb or ski, what is probably bringing you here, be prepared to gain weight, sit at a desk and be so tired of climbing and the people that you want to be no where near it during your time off. Climbers no longer run the company. The bottom line is for wall street. The majority of senior management do not climb and have no connection to the roots of BD. There is no longer respect or reverence for the history. People are overworked and under paid. A constant trend was to fire someone and then dumped the workload onto an already existing employee without a title change or a pay increase. High turnover. Lack of mentorship. "The beatings will continue until morale improves."

Pros

There a lot of great employees who genuinely love the brand and haven't given up on it. The dress code is very casual.

Cons

The company is trying to maintain itself by being the "cool climbing company" and it's not sustainable. They have taken away bonuses and are not competitive regarding compensation. A lot of people have left and there is little to no effort by HR to try to improve morale or employee retention. The HR department is incredibly small and if you get a response to your e-mail there is a strong possibility it will have a slight tone of irritation or shortness in the response. Management and HR does not respond impartially to harassment concerns. They also do not follow through on investigations when situations like harassment are brought to their attention, despite documentation of the official complaint procedure in the Employee Handbook. It is imperative during job offer negotiations to document the details in writing because there is a tendency by some managers to not follow-through on verbal agreements.

Pros

Amazing Pioneer Brand in Climb being tarnished by current management

Cons

2 weeks on the job VP of Marketing left, 2 months in VP of merchandising left, day before I left Brand Director left. HR is terrible hiring and firing for random reasons, no effective coaching or support network in place, no clear direction and actually conflicting direction between CFO and President. No awareness or employee moral, employee needs, or circumstances. Core climbing culture is exclusive and not welcoming, Terrible manual legacy processes in place, no formal planning, budgeting, or controls in place. Presidents spends budgets without regard to responsible manager. Letting directors go with no severance, notice, or promised bonus. I have never seen a company in worse shape attempting to move at a mind blowing pace with no foundation or investment. Company is attempting to recover from terrible margins with no attempt to clean the market. I was let go for untrue accusations, with no chance to reconcile, no coaching, no opportunity to ensure my experience was heard. In my 20 year career I have never received a negative mark with HR, never been under "exceeds expectations" in my annual reviews. Definitely wild west within this company with no regard to peoples lives, employees time and investment in the company is under appreciated, and they have done a nice job in establishing a fear culture for all directors, management, and supporting teams.
