Majorly inclusive, with afro, muslim, and LGBT communities within the company

Cons

They started finding any excuse to terminate as much as their staff as they could. Things were already becoming insufferable with the increase in micromanagement and the removal of benefits (removing covid protections, limited PTO, penalized for tech issues or bathroom breaks), and HR doesn't protect against really petty staff when they don't like how they were talked to and will start rumors that put others careers in danger at times.

Pros

Working at CashApp at Block was great. It has changed very much now that they are standardizing things across all the different business units: CashApp, Square, Tidal etc. Every business branch/arm had its unique culture and CashApp was all about celebrating how you work, providing you with a lot of autonomy. The company has great extended health benefits Remote work environment Ability to travel and work abroad Great communities to foster culture in a distributed work environment e.g. faith, background, hobbies, etc.

Cons

Block as a whole is becoming more hierachical Difficult to get promoted or merit increase Really large range in salary and compensation pending on where you are based Staff reduction and layoffs are done without accounting for impact, skill sets, experience, and existing projects (value add).

Pros

Pay is pretty good. Other than that there is no upside unless you have a safe position.

Cons

If you love being treated like you are expendable this is a great place. They constantly move the goalposts and gaslight you for not reaching their goals of perfection. I’ve never worked at a place where my integrity has been unjustly called into question. Square also has consistent outages so new customers beware. I’ve been threatened on multiple occasions with termination. If you keep your head down you should be okay. However compliance with their rules only makes them more and more challenging.
