Culture over benefits

Pros

Great co-workers, an environment where the whole company works together. Numerous learning opportunities. Transparency with the company direction, financials, and product roadmap. Terrific employee phantom stock. Work life balance is great.

Cons

Benefits leave a lot to be desired. Pay is below average with no 401k match. Limited earning growth. This has begun to negatively impact employee recruitment and retention. Learning opportunities tend to be informational rather than focus on improving processes and employee preparedness.

Pros

With Bloomerang, I get to help nonprofits bring in more money, which lets them do more of their good work. And I get paid, to boot! Company values and culture are very important. I can't think of any employees that I don't get along with, and I really enjoy spending time with my coworkers. The company also values transparency, so business decisions and company financials are visible to the employees. From an R&D standpoint, Bloomerang "gets it". We place a strong emphasis on code quality and try hard to minimize bugs, rather than rushing things out the door.

Cons

Bloomerang is still fairly small, so we don't have some of the perks that come with a larger organization. However, we are growing rapidly, which causes its own problems at times. Maintaining a culture of transparency and valuing employee input from all levels is still something we strive for, but it gets harder as the company grows, and implementation hasn't always been perfect. Also, as we grow and move into a larger space, the various departments are more spread out, which makes it harder to build and maintain cross-departmental relationships.
