Pros

Technically sound company, you will probably develop professionally and learn things about the technical side if you're interested, which can be very valuable and lucrative

Cons

It's IT infrastructure, being developed for insurance companies, by finance and IT nerds. It's literally the most boring place you could ever work. It's like the movie Inception for soul sucking work. Stiffs inside of Nerds inside of Dweebs! woah! Pretty poor work culture, there is no concern for work life balance They will "promote" you but then say they have to test you to see if you can actually perform the job function. So you end up doing your previous job, PLUS handling the new job, and you don't even get the actual promotion til a year later (if ever) Or, in my case, you get told there's a promotion if you do all sorts of extra work and slave yourself out over a year and a half and then get flying colors on your performance review only to find out, there isn't actually a position to promote you into. Whoops! People are extremely political, not a place you can bring your personality to work I've had managers mock me for not coming in on the weekend, uh... I guess... sorry that I'm better at my job than you are?

Pros

Work/life balance is good but not overly great. Benefits were pretty competitive. Co-workers were smart although morale was super low for the entirety of my 5+ years.

Cons

Hierarchical and poor leadership trickles down. Strategic services organization consistently has more middle management (managers and directors) than junior staff which means non-management staff burnout fast and move on, creating a revolving door of employees. This leaves an even bigger gap in workload and means that directors and executive directors with high salaries are often pulling together last minute powerpoint slides at the request of senior and executive leadership versus actually innovating. While the people are great and smart, everyone battles the same fatigue with red tape and lackluster leadership which means morale is in the garbage and 99% of the time you (and everyone else) are just a dog chasing your own tail. Progress and innovation are slow to nonexistent.

Pros

Although expensive the insurance is better than other insurers. Great vacation.

Cons

Many of the senior employees are lifers and they are afraid of younger, more educated new hires. They want to maintain the status quo because that's the way it's always been. Many of these lifers try to sabotage and make you look bad so they can look like they are saving you. You have to watch your back. Lots of backstabbing.
