Pros
Small company size. I understand this could be a "con" for some people, but the small company size allows a normal employee to feel that they are more of a crucial part of the company rather than just anyone that can be dismissed without some level of repercussions. The people are friendly, for the most part. This is just the general nature of human beings, but save for a few people, everyone is friendly and seem to get along. If you are a developer, you have your own "side". The company is sort of split into two groups, the developers - and everyone else. If you are a developer, you get to have a cubicle with the rest of your "kind" in a different part of the building, which is neat since now management can be less strict about things like dresscode or noise level. It also allows you to talk to your colleagues without feeling like you're being constantly watched. The other side of the building is where all of the "office" people sit. This side is a bit more formal since it is the "customer facing" side, meaning clients can come in and out. It is also brighter (lights). The company seems to be in a good place financially. Due to the nature of the company (the size, the product) I don't think this was ever an issue. If you have software that has a big user base, it will be very hard to have the numbers work against you due to the industry profit margin in general. So, you don't have to feel the company is going to be shut down tomorrow because it can't pay its bills. In general, the company seems pretty flexible working with individuals. However, this may or may not have some favoritism applied. For instance, there are some employees that can work remotely, meaning from home, and others that can't. While there may be a good reason for this, it has never been established as to "why" someone is allowed to do so. Again, this is a sign of flexibility, but it can also be a sign of favoritism depending on whom you ask. The company has a good benefits package. It doesn't seem like the company is out to get the cheapest option available - it is a better package in terms of quality than I received in previous jobs. The only thing missing is that they don't pay for your schooling, should you choose to go back and better yourself as an individual. But the health, vision, dental and the 401k is among the best. It is a pet-friendly office. However, if you have allergies you can bring this up to HR.
Cons
The ultimate vision for the company. It is evident that the company is gearing up to sell. It is making short-sighted decisions that are affecting the overall morale of the company. Things like resource-requests being consistently second guessed to a point where it impacts the work of the department/team that asked for the additional resources. Also, since it lacks an ultimate vision other than being sold, the "how should I respond to this particular event" is a bit marred and permeates down to the individual level. Meaning that a project that is facing a problem is now being judged not by "how well could I fix this", but being judged by "how will this affect the company being sold later", and that sort of thinking is insidious. Thus, it becomes a company that is focused on short-sighted issues. There are office politics. Every place has them, and this company isn't immune to this. Upward mobility is little to none. This is where the small size of the company has a downside.
