Poor Leadership, lack of cooperation amoung departments

Working for a noble mission

Cons

Very poor organizational structure, causing a lot of inefficiencies. There is very poor leadership in National, and chapter turnover is extremely high. Top leaders are very stuck in their ways and do not welcome new ideas. There is no sense of comraderie in National. Every man for himself, regardless of for the better good of the org. The blame game is a big thing here.

Pros and Cons of the JDRF Chapters

Pros

Great volunteer base. Good training opportunities and support provided by National to local Chapters regarding fund raising. Understanding and flexiblity regarding personal life and work responsibilities. Comp time offered, generous vacation time (if you can find the time to take it), Good medical and dental benefits although co-pays have increased every year for medical. Good communication between National and local chapters regarding research innitiatives and results.

Cons

Working in a local chapter there is no opportunity for advancement. National does not always post their job openings. National does not do a very good job of coaching their Chapter Executive Directors on employment issues. Recognition for a job well done on the local level is pretty much zip.

This organziation so completely buys into its mission and works in every possible way to deliver on the promise.

Cons

Economic swings do not always favor something considered less of a tangible than food and shelter when it comes to donor choices.
