Pros

They hire a great set of people. Too bad they cant keep them.

Cons

Brilliant Earth will sell you a great story of culture and values during the interview process, but you realize pretty quickly that it is all smoke and mirrors. There were so many red flags that I decided to ignore until the thought of going into work became too overwhelming. I would be so stressed at the thought of selling and meeting unrealistic goals that my hair started to fall out and my eyes developed a nervous twitch. The biggest red flag is the constant revolving door of employees in the showrooms. Brilliant Earth will lead you to believe that most employees leaving is concentrated to just one role (concierge) but its literally everyone from the concierge, to the jewelry consultants, to the managers. Everyone has either already left or they have one foot out the door. And you would think that upper management would take notice and do something about everyone quitting, but they do not care. They look at you as just a replaceable number. If you voice your displeasure with how you and your coworkers are being treated, they will gaslight you and tell you that it is a privilege to work at Brilliant Earth. Say goodbye to work life balance working at Brilliant Earth. The 10am-7pm shift is so rigid that it leaves time for you to do little else with your day. Also, be prepared for every single minute of your day to be accounted for with the 10am-7pm shift, and being so overloaded with work that it’s common to work through your lunch break. You will be so exhausted after working this shift (and being treated like crap for the majority of it) that on your days off you just want a mental break and peace. The PTO system is a joke as well, and there are so many blackout periods that you really wont be able to use it. There will be little time left for daily tasks, family, and friends after working the shift that Brilliant Earth claims is for work life balance.

Pros

Before COVID-19 the work culture at BE was great. Potlucks, outings, happy hours etc. BE employees work very hard. Collaboration is key to succeeding in your role.

Cons

The management team at BE are inexperienced in the roles they manage. They do not lead by example. Management consistently assigns more tasks to their employees than is achievable, and forces the employees to work UNPAID overtime in order to complete said tasks. If these over-assigned tasks are not complete you will get chewed out by your manager and receive a bad annual review. Management is very passive aggressive, unsupportive and unapproachable. They openly trash talk employees in the presence of their peers. Job security is non-existent. They have done reorganizations of their entire organization and laid off many dedicated employees so that they may save $. Employee morale is in the gutter. Turnover rate is very high, especially in Sales. Many employees have quit to due their mental health deteriorating with the amount of work and unreasonable sales quotas assigned. Salary is very low compared to other companies in the same industry. Annual raises are a joke, less than an additional dollar per hour. Annual bonuses are very minimal compared to the amount of work the employee is assigned. Promotions are very rare. They choose to hire from external applicants rather than promote from within. Unsavory business practices include layoffs, lying to customers about the status of their orders in order to save face when operational processes are in fact lacking and causing delays.

Pros

Honestly, there are some amazing people who work here. They are beaten down, dissatisfied and feel trapped in their jobs.

Cons

Where do I begin. The pretentious, elitist approach from upper management is unbelievably un-inspiring, soul-crushing and devoid of all morals in the industry. I came here believing they had the consumer in mind, to help provide an honest service, and I was constantly pressured to make decisions against my better judgement. These people care only about profit over quality of product and service.
