Pros

I enjoy the healthcare benefits.

Cons

In the last few months the culture at BE has taken a nose dive. Most co-workers I talk to are suffering from severe burnout, lack of leadership, and crying weekly. The leadership has changed significantly into a hierarchical structure that has employees questioning their self-worth and feeling like their work is worthless and gets overridden to the point of why bother putting in the work. The new leadership doesn't have their teams' back or support them in front of upper leaders . Leadership looks at daily sales under a microscope vs. looking at performance as a whole, which causes teams to spiral for quick wins / squeeze out one more purchase. This ultimately undermines the strategies the teams are working towards and causes chaos.

Pros

Pretty jewelry. That’s about it.

Cons

I worked for this company for almost two years, was recognized for winning department-wide awards TWICE, received a notable promotion to the team of Super Resolutions, and the highest salary I achieved was $48K. There were many reasons that contributed to me being miserable there, but the main one was the lack of sustainable pay. I can’t tell you how many times I begged not for a raise, but simply for a fair wage for the work I was doing. I asked before accepting my promotion and I was told they would get back to me, but soon after I received an email with the offer letter stating the lower salary. No mention of my request. After I finished training in the new role, my trainer put in their two weeks’ notice and guess who was passed on their training responsibilities with no pay increase (hint: me). Or how about the time I only had two days off over the course of a month because of scheduling conflicts that were not my responsibility? They wouldn’t even give me a doordash gift card for that. Also, why am I clocking in and out for lunch and receiving hourly pay on my checks when I signed a salaried contract? It really baffles me how they build showrooms in some of the most expensive cities in the country and then expect us to be okay with BARELY enough to get by in this economy (without living with 3 roommates as a 30 year old). When I tried to discuss this with my manager, they basically told me, “well I’m severely underpaid too, so I don’t know what to tell you.” The cherry on top is that I worked escalations. My job was literally working with the most upset customers and seeing some of the worst production and service that the company had to offer. The whole operation is a nightmare but I got the privilege of only ever seeing the worst of the worst. Brilliant Earth wasn’t taking care of me or my teammates and they SURE weren’t taking care of their customers. It wasn’t long before it became me and the customer against Brilliant Earth and I realized I could not call these people (who are completely reasonable 99% of the time) without telling blatant lies. I had no ground to stand on to defend this company, even if I tried. I decided I was going to leave. 24 hours later I accepted a job as a restaurant server and am now earning over twice as much as I made there. I’ve also lost 25 pounds and my stress rash has gone away.

Pros

Great people, the product is nice to look at. The office is in a central location

Cons

They just don't value their people. Huge turnover, they hire right out of college and expect you to leave after a year. Their actions seem to prioritize their sales team over every team, which is fine, but then they let their sales team treat other teams like gum on their shoes. CEO's act disengaged, they sit in meetings and say nothing or just whisper to whoever is of the highest rank. No upward mobility training. No career support (just pretend meetings once a quarter). Managers visibly unhappy. You're expected to work holidays and get told off if you ask for them off. They only believe in single points of failure. So get ready to be the only expert they have, or the only person covering your customers. For example, they say it's an open PTO policy but once you start getting up to 8 days you start having HR and manager meetings about "how you only have a couple days left". They seem to have done this only so they wouldn't have to pay for unused PTO (which again, fine. But don't pretend otherwise). And those 10 days include sick days too. Pretty sure that the CEOs meet with HR about how much time everyone takes off, which is just ridiculous. Go work for a real company who values you. There's plenty out there.
