Homebase needs to change

Pros

My supervisor was great and the case managers at Homebase are a great group. Each of the case managers want to see you succeed and are extremely helpful. There is an extensive training period but you will mostly learn by doing. The Jackson Ave office is very welcoming, everyone leans on each other for support.

Cons

Very long probationary period - 6 months Upper management are not supportive, they do not listen to the case managers wants/needs. They only care about funding and meeting targets and not about the well being of their case managers or their supervisors. Extremely long review process of applications, org can take forever to get something approved which will anger the clients, be prepared for that. Very large caseload, can be up to 50 clients and all of these clients will have extensive needs (housing court, pending evictions, pending applications).

Pros

The Homebase program is great in the way it helps people with housing instability. Working with the community can be very rewarding. Your fellow case managers are really supportive and great people.

Cons

This place is straight up abusive. Management has been overheard demeaning case managers, saying we can't do our jobs, and treating us like workhorses. I wouldn't recommend anyone to work here. When you eventually quit, upper management will pretend you don't exist. Less than 10% of the team has lasted a year, by the way. Don't be fooled by the fake reviews. Upper management calls shots that infuriate clients which makes them come to the office and threaten case managers.
