Pros

Good people to work with, the general staff are all very friendly and easy to get along with. Frontline staff enjoys working with the public. The health insurance benefits are SUPER...best I've ever had.

Cons

I say it again politics! The board is made up of snobs who run the place by what's in the newspaper and NOT by what is best for the library.

Serving and directly impacting the lives of the members of your community can be one of the most rewarding and fulfilling jobs you will ever have.

Cons

Salaries are not the best, but who gets into librarianship to become rich?` Also, there are opportunities for growth, but advancement can become stagnant.

Pros

Great benefits (free health, dental, optical. I got free glasses!) , Awesome work environment - books, kids & crazy people! Some branches have really great staff. Can be very entertaining. Latitude to work on projects.

Cons

Low pay, and even as you advance in the ranks, the pay scale does not improve. You could be running 4 libraries, have dozens of people working under you, and barely crack $50k. You will have 5 weeks paid vacation, so it's a trade-off. don't work here if you don't like kids, or are not prepared for the daily onslaught of 'the public'.
