Pros

- Employees are ncouraged to run or go workout daily during work hours or lunch - Free onsite gym - Easy comfortable dress code: You can wear Brooks gear and running shoes all day/every day - Very understanding about maternity, paternity, or illness leaves - Can be a fun place to work, they try to make it so - Nice running trails right outside the door - Lots of free gear/shoe samples distributed on fairly regular (but unexpected) basis--an email goes out and stampede begins - They'll sponsor employees fees for certain (number of) races each year - LOTS of encouragement for people who run in events - Great operations team, especially in distribution center - Once they get to know you, most people are generally nice--except the running cliques

Cons

- Boys club environment--especially in management, sales, and footwear - Management lets sales call the shots - For a small company, seriously poor inter-departmental communication - Strong competition and certain amount of secrecy between silos (Sales, Marketing, Footwear, Apparel) makes collaboration difficulty - A work culture based on competitive long-distance running seems to breed a competitive, non-collaborative environment - Company fractured into exclusive cliques, often based on age, sex, and running times - Sales team = frat boy atmosphere that's condoned by upper mgmt because "Boys will be boys" - Lots of promotions to men, not women, even when the woman is better qualified/better candidate - Success here is often decided on personality, not competence - If you don't have a cheery "FUN" demeanor or personality, you won't make it - If you're not a runner, you will feel like an outsider the whole time you're there

Pros

CEO is a Brooks lifer, so we have a leader who is deeply rooted in the culture and committed to the company & its people. Work/life balance fairly good, better than most places in the area. Great workplace with cool like-minded employees, makes it a fun place to work at.

Cons

Flat organization with minimal upward mobility, so pay needs another market adjustment to keep up with Seattle living if they are requiring, at least 3, in-office days. If they recall 5 days/week, then I'll just go to Amazon and do the same work for double the salary and a promotion track.

Pros

There are so many things to love about working at Brooks: 1.) A positive, optimistic culture that results in some of the most kind, welcoming, and helpful coworkers you could imagine working with. 2.) An impressive focus on DEI that not only touches our corporate environment, but helps ensure representation of runners from all backgrounds throughout our marketing campaigns and within the run community as a whole. 3.) A major investment into people leaders via a robust 3-year development program aimed at helping set all managers up for success. I've never seen anything like this at previous companies. 4.) Approachable and down-to-earth senior leadership. It is a pleasure getting to interact with every single employee who works at this company, to experience the unique culture that exists here, and to feel so well-supported by the leaders we have running our team.

Cons

1.) The pay is not competitive. I applaud the recent investment in trying to get everyone's compensation closer to the market, but truth is that it still falls short and we risk losing great talent to other companies who can pay AT LEAST 10% more base salary while offering stocks and a better (and less variable) bonus, blowing the total comp at Brooks out of the water. 2.) Removing flexibility to work from home. Requiring individuals to be in office not only on specific days, but enforcing the amount of hours they must be present in office is highly impactful and borders on micromanagement. Especially given the fact Brooks has many employees with families and/or other outside commitments they need to tend to. The 40-60% designation that was previously in place struck a perfect balance of increasing in-person engagement while providing flexibility to work around one's personal schedule, and there should have been work done to get employee feedback before making what will be a drastic change by the end of 2024.
